Though only Robinson and Jones were arrested and taken to jail, there were four people in Robinson's rental car early in the morning of May 17. The other two were handcuffed initially, Guerriero said, but only Jones and Robinson were booked. The incident report obtained through public records made no mention of the other two involved in the case.

quote:

"Mr. Jones is the one who called it to the police's attention because he didn't want anything to happen," Guerriero said. "'Look, I have a gun in my lap. My hands are up. I just want to show you.'"

quote:

Possessing the gun didn't violate the law, so Guerriero said were no grounds for further searches. The attorney said it wasn't clear if the car occupants gave consent to search the vehicle.

"Nothing said they did," Guerriero said.

It's interesting that his lawyer is registered with the NFL as an agent.

What part? The made up story of additional passengers or the lack competency of the police department?

I'm sure those fine boys were just tuckered out from working a night at the local resuce mission.

But what about the illegal gun possession?

Maybe because they can't be certain it belongs to Cam since there were two other people in the car (if there were actually others in the car - I honestly don't have a clue whats going on any more)

1) who cares if there were others in the car?
2) small amount of marijuana is still illegal.
3) guns and marijuana is always an illegal combo.
4) stolen guns too.
5) the odor of marijuana gave the cop probable cause to search.
6) 2:33 a.m. on a Tuesday morning in a park that is closed? He smelled marijuana and found some. Doesn't matter if Jones told him about the gun or not.
7) All would be OK if the DA had said it was an illegal search and he didn't think he could get a conviction. That is NOT what he said. He implied they played football in a hot climate and he refused to ruin their lives. I'm sorry but two other kids from the wrong side of the tracks have gone to jail for less, I'm sure.

That's what happens when you keep spinning spinning spinning.

They got off because the DA got paid. It's okay to admit that. It happens all the time with people with money.

I'm not spinning anything.

Maybe the DA got paid. I live in Louisiana though and the police completely fricking up an arrest / investigation wouldn't be the first time and isn't really shocking.

The point, who had the stolen gun, Cam or one of the other two in the car?

yeah, I'm positive.
I'm a Bama fan and honestly I'll be glad to see Cam suit up this fall. Would have been sad to see all that potential thrown away for a little weed.

But I also think it is DA's like this guy who erode public trust in our judicial system.

I'm a big football fan, but some things are bigger than football. I guess I'm also impacted by the fact that I'm one of those guys who came from the wrong side of the tracks and had to work hard to do it the right way to get out. If I was busted at that age with weed and a stolen gun, I'd be going to jail.

The search was illegal because Hootie having a weapon in his lap was not enough reason for the officer to search the vehicle. Apparently the officer never got consent to search. Anything found in an illegal search cannot be presented as evidence, so that excludes the pot and the illegal weapon. How do you prove they had those things if you cannot present them as evidence?
