Did you like him? Hate him? Looks like he's the first choice to replace Foley at UF.

Brother of Bill Byrne. A&M AD that was ousted because he was opposed to the move to the SEC.

But from what I've heard, Greg is one of the better ones.

He's pretty dang good. He's responsible for a vast improvement in marketing at MSU and Arizona. He was the head fundraiser at Oregon in the mid-90s (responsible for the Nike contract that changed college sports), and he spent some time at Kentucky as well.

We were lucky to have him for a couple years. He fired Croom and hired Cohen- going against the popular opinion on both for the betterment of both programs.

Did some similar things at Arizona - firing Stoops and hiring RichRod. His forte is marketing and getting rid of coaches that shouldn't be there. Certainly a big picture guy that would be a great hire at a place like Florida.

Son, not brother.

He will be forever known at State as "The Ninja". Would be hilarious if he replaces Foley. That would prove all the "Foley hated Mullen" rumors from Mississippi Black Bears were bullshite as Greg hired Mullen.

The Foley hating Mullen thing wasn't Ole Miss fans saying that. Florida fans were the ones that said that.

Also looking like he made a good choice hiring Jay Johnson as baseball coach at Arizona.

"I told my wife there's finally an athletic director that gets it," San Diego Toreros head coach and Johnson’s former boss Rich Hill said of the day Johnson was hired by Arizona. "Here's a guy that's a young dude in college baseball, but obviously Greg Byrne is very wise beyond his years. That was my first thought. I think Greg Byrne really deserves a lot of credit for hiring Jay."

He wasn't AD at State for very long, but he made some positive changes in his short time.

Really good AD. Hired Mullen & Cohen. Doubt he leaves Zona. His whole family is out there and went to ASU.

We won't get him if he is any good because Arizona will circle the wagons. We will get him a pay raise, so he can thank us for that.
