lol, still I think both Mizzou and aTm bring way more to the table than Vandy. I am not for conference expansion, but I am for upgrading. Vandy is the weakest link...goodbye!

Honestly, I think they knew it would be a tough nut to crack, but they also knew that it would be up to Mizzou to crack it, and based on a few things that I'm seeing, that none of you would understand unless you were a Mizzou fan...

...East St. Louis being a fine example. Harrumph!

I see great movement towards something we didn't have 20 years ago. Hell, not even 5 years ago.

Upside is huge and there are two very large metros to lock down, GP decoded the development problem, and created an obvious player evaluation metric.

Lock down the two metros, and use the development and evaluation methods gleaned from the GP era, and we've got a program.

It's not surprising that some of you idiots still don't understand how the SEC Network makes its money. Literally no one in 21st Louis and KC could watch and the network still makes the money because it's on the teir 1 package so everyone gets it and pays for it with basic cable if they watch it or not

KC will never be a big draw for Mizzou sports. It's a melting pot for local teams, you have MU, KU, KSU, Northwest Missouri State Univeristy and to a lesser degree ISU and Nebraska. The TV sets come from outside of KC like the St. Louis area. The pro teams do draw some away but mainly if you like football you are watching both. College baseball has never really done much for people in Missouri. So the Royals and Cards never had to take away any fans.

I truly have no idea since I dont live in a pro sports market.

No, it would be more like 85% Cardinals then divvy up the rest. The Cardinals are hugely popular and they win pretty much all the time, but again you can be a fan of multiple teams.

There is definitely more interest and coverage now than 10 years ago, but STL will always be a baseball town. I actually think KC is a better college sports town, but it's a lot like Atlanta in terms of being a melting pot of different fan bases. Mizzou has the biggest share, but there are plenty of kansas, KState and nub fans. Mizzou dominates STL as far as college market goes.

Honestly never felt much of a connection with the Rams when they were here. Sure it was fun when the won the Super Bowl, but I had no deep seeded love for them.

It will still take time, but there is definitely 10x's as much coverage of Mizzou football in the STL since the move to the SEC.

Yes. With the Rams leaving the St. Louis region is primed to fully embrace SEC football.

And in all honesty, I wish Mizzou did a better job of marketing and making people available to increase the daily profile of the team. Maybe it's unrealistic to expect the coverage to be Cardinals or Blues like when it's 100 miles to the West, but just feels small time in comparison. It's pretty clear the TV stations go out there once a week and then cobble together and create a week's worth of stories out of that one trip.

On the radio side, I wish they would make the coaches and AD more available then they do and it appears Barry Odom is going to further limit their availability. The local sports talk hosts need to build their network of local and national SEC contacts in the various cities to generate interest like they've done in the past with the NFL. I'm hoping it happens over time.

I have noticed a spike in Mizzou gear around town since the move. If it's a little slower on the Kansas City side, it's understandable since they were the epicenter of the Big 8. Once the XII finishes imploding maybe more people will talk SEC.

That's really a hard question because so many people are fans / supporters of multiple teams. Everyone's a Cardinals fan, so it's more of who their co-favorite is with them to follow in the fall / winter.

Before Stan Kroenke poisoned his fan base I would have said the hardcore fan base of each team was

Cardinals: 50-60%
Rams / NFL: 20-25%
Blues: 15%
Mizzou: 5-10%

Since it became clear Kroenke was going to leave, I would say the Blues and Mizzou have each added to their percentages with more room for growth, especially for Mizzou. All those jilted Ram / NFL fans are ripe for the picking and Mizzou needs to go after them aggressively.

I'm betting Arkansas would be much the same way if we got a pro team.

There are pro teams in New Orleans and Atlanta. Hasn't seemed to dampen the support for Tigers and Bulldogs.

I live in KC and I've been here for a little more than three years. While there are a lot of Mizzou fans, KU is the dominant college sports team here. Lawrence is less than an hour to the West. Their alumni end up overwhelmingly in KC, whereas Mizzou alumni are split between KC and STL.

Mizzou doesn't get as much sidewalkers as the other states. A LOT of our fans actually went here. If you didn't you tend to root for the pro teams.

Regardless, Missouri is one of the few SEC states that makes the SEC network profitable. AL, AR, AK, and especially MS all lose money for the network.

Wait, I thought the whole point of letting Mizzou join the conference was because of all the (alleged) Mizzou fans in KC and STL who were supposed boost the SEC Network's ratings. Were we scammed???

It did boost the SEC network's cable footprint coverage and therefore its earnings. The ratings have been fine for SEC football in KC and STL.

Living in KC as a Mizzou fan, I do not feel slighted for the coverage that we receive. If I were to rank team coverage in the whole state:

1. Cardinals (top 5 franchise in sports)
2. Royals (just won a World Series)
3. Chiefs (now only NFL franchise)
4. Mizzou Football (basketball right now is an after thought)
5. kU basketball (really only in KC, football is non existent)

KC is just a melting pot of fanbases. But I feel it is a bigger college sports town than pro. Its just there are so many different colleges that fans root for. You know which radio stations to listen to for coverage for each fanbase. If I were to rank states in the SEC for total sports fans, not just 1 sport fanbase (total), Missouri ranks as one of the highest.

Cardinals baseball is religion in the state. That will never change as the #1 team, no matter how good the other teams do.

One thing that will be interesting to see in the next few years are the resources that went to Rams, will we see them go to Mizzou for the football fix. I think the Rams left at the worst time for Mizzou, only because it will take another 2013 season to gain season ticket holders from STL that weren't before. If Mizzou can put together a respectable season this year, which they should, watch out for some major stadium projects (south endzone, facilities) in the near future. Mizzou didn't take advantage of the success to the full potential, reasons probably because of the leadership of the university.

Cardinals and not even close, and that goes for pretty much then entire state, until you reach KC where the Royals play. If polled the entire state, #1 team to follow, the rankings would look like this.

1. Cardinals
2. Chiefs
3. Royals
4. Tigers
5. Blues

This for sure. Mizzou and kU are your Big 2 fan bases in KC. But there are a lot of fans in the next tier including K-State and Nebraska. The tier below that you still see a smattering of fans, and that includes Iowa State, Arkansas, and Oklahoma.

There are over 5 significant followings in KC none of which own a 50% or more majority of fans. The closest to having a majority are either MU or kU.

Agreed. Kansas City was headquarters of the Big 8 so naturally the media here is still centric to the Big 12. The SEC will become more prominent in KC as Mizzou continues to compete and/or when the Big 12 finally dies. Mizzou gets good coverage here year round, but during basketball season, the local media loves slobbing on the knob of kU basketball.

Refer to my 1st point. I've lived here my entire life and it's really a fairly even split between MU and kU as the major teams. It resembles the split of the metro area closely, so it just depends what part of town you're in. You're definitely right though that almost all of kU's alumni move to KC, whereas Mizzou's alumni are split between KC, STL, Chicago, and Dallas.
