Don't take this the wrong way, Y'all have proven you can compete in athletics, but the culture just doesn't match up.

When I hear someone talk about "Missouri", I think of the Midwest. My mind doesn't process it as any different than Oklahoma or Kansas.

To put it simply. You guys are Yanks, while the rest of us are Pawls. I'm not saying I dislike you guys, but it just doesn't feel like SEC.

Anyone else feel this way?

Ole Miss doesn't belong in the SEC either.

As stated yesterday, other than UF, they've won the East more times than anyone since joining.

I like the south better, but with that said Missouri is pretty cool in its uniqueness.

Perhaps I should've rephrased the topic, but I'm not speaking about athletics here.

Its like saying Ohio State would fit in if they joined and won the East. They wouldn't, It's just not southern football

Well now, this is an original take.

While I know Fayetteville-proper isn't the most "SOUTHERN" feeling place, its still far more southern culturally than anything in Missouri or Oklahoma.

Mizzou will always feel weird. It ain't going away.

Southeast Oklahoma is far more culturally south than central and NW Arkansas.

Along with Missouri your fans obsession with the grove and calling your university the Harvard of the south are equally off to me.

LOL, no.

It is poor, and full of Native American rednecks. Having an abundance of rednecks doesn't make a place "Southern". If it did, then even western New York State could be considered "southern".

Honestly, you say that but it's like you totally forget that both UT and UK are in the Upper South. We're a part of the Ohio Valley along with MO, OH, IL etc.

Cinci is just as close as Atlanta. For those in Kentucky it's closer. Upper South and Deep South share a lot in common but we're also different and share a few things in common with OH and MO (it's just fewer in terms of accent, food, and general culture being far more in common with the Deep South). MO is just on the wrong side of the river.

To be fair, the "Harvard of the South" thing initially came from something separate than academics. And disclaimer, in no way do I consider Ole Miss the "Harvard of the South at all". I know our academics don't compare whatsoever.

Anyways, when I went to tour the school, I was told a story that loosely went like this (other OM people please correct me):

"During some war, Harvard had artwork at their campus they wanted to preserve. They sent one of the pieces to Ole Miss, and the other elsewhere. Because of this history with Harvard, Ole Miss now refers to themselves as the Harvard of the South"

That was all I could remember. the Harvard of the South thing is still stupid, if anything Vandy earns that title

Nobody asked about how you felt during expansion slick and we don't give a damn how you feel now. They are SEC. Period.

I disagree but Missouri definitely needs to purge the liberal progressives from their administration. Their current decline in enrollment is proof positive that this needs to happen. You can't be a SJW and be a legit part of the SEC.

I am.

To be fair, I have lived in Missouri (SW part, Joplin area) ... it wasn't that bad.

Mizzou simply has no business in the SEC.

Please tell me how McAlester or Hugo, Oklahoma, is more "culturally South" than Little Rock.
