LSU coach Les Miles did all he could to keep defensive coordinator John Chavis in Baton Rouge. First reported by The Advocate, Miles offered Chavis a three-year contract worth $5.4 million hours after the Tigers’ Music City Bowl loss last season, according to documents Chavis filed in a lawsuit against LSU. Chavis reportedly declined the offer with lawyers present inside Miles’ hotel room in Nashville. Documents say Miles knew Chavis was leaving LSU for Texas A&M weeks before the Tigers’ bowl appearance.

The only thing I'm pissed off about is that Chavis didn't leave weeks beforehand, so that someone who still had his heart with LSU could have coached the players. If Chavis would have left after the regular season, fine. But to make 0 defensive adjustments and essentially not coach versus Notre Dame is not all that respectable.

There's no way that can be correct.

The issue never was the money. The sticking point was the guarantee Chavis wanted. Where have you chicken frickers been? He wanted to be guaranteed a contract regardless of who was head coach. No one in their right minds is that desperate....oh, except aTm.

It wasn't the money that was the problem, it was a clause in his contract

Miles hates coaching turnover and addressed this publicly hours after it happened. Chavis's beef was with Alleva.

Yall offered him 1.8 million. He took 1.5 to go to A&M.

Don't know why this is such a big deal

1. He had already decided he was leaving

2. It was always about the clause and disrespect and never about the money

3. The article says "Les Miles offered" him. Alleva would have never actually signed off on it, unless Miles has authority to do that (I'm not privy to his contract). In any case, it was never a Les Miles wanting him back issue, as that was well documented. It was always an issue with the administration

4. I can't believe I'm even addressing this, but if anything it disproves the constant "A&M outbid LSU... LSU poor" rhetoric aggies spewed all offseason.

Y'all really need to just move on and enjoy the windfall. LSU fans are content, as our A&M fans, deservedly so. For being fans of a pretty respectable academic institution, you guys aren't the best critical thinkers.

Actually, he left because Alleva wouldn't guarantee him a job regardless of any coaching turnover. aTm's AD would.

There are reasons most coordinators have that clause in their contract. It can be a problem if the head coach gets fired or leaves.

You're not listening dumbass. It was never about the money. We could pay more than aTm did. We even told yall that. He went to aTm cause yall guaranteed him a contract even if sumlin gets fired this year after underperforming yet again. LSU, nor any other school with a great tradition needs a coordinator that bad. A&M on the other hand....

Just let that sink in your conasses heads. Chavis, the BEST COACH on your staff took less money to come to a BETTER situation. An Offense that can score points, lots of points. You lsu fans better hope you guys beat us this year, otherwise, so called DBU pipeline, with stud Texas DB's going to lsu is ovah. At least ya'll got 4th Quarter and Steele.
