It was announced Sunday that Florida head coach Will Muschamp would step down as head coach of the Gators at the end of this season.

Many replacement candidates have surfaced since then and so far Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy is the favorite to be the next coach according Bovada's latest gambling odds.

Here are the current Bovada odds:

Mike Gundy (Oklahoma State) 4/1
Jim McElwain (Colorado State) 9/2
Bob Stoops (Oklahoma) 11/2
Dan Mullen (Mississippi State) 11/2
Mike Shanahan (Unemployed) 7/1
Rich Rodriguez (Arizona) 7/1
Steve Spurrier (South Carolina) 8/1
Hugh Freeze (Ole Miss) 9/1
Gary Patterson (TCU) 12/1
Gus Malzahn (Auburn) 12/1

Gundy would not be a terrible hire, but not really a home run either in my mind.

I feel like the only homerun hires that have a chance of actually happening are Rich Rod, Mike Dantonio, or Stoops

I agree that Gundy wouldn't be a terrible hire for them though

I'm curious to see how they would pull a former player from coaching at his alma mater.

Wonder how much UF is gonna wind up paying? CWM's + his staff's buyout is somewhere around 8 million. A name coach from another school is also going to have a big buyout and that's before you factor in salary + staff's salary.

Florida has more than enough money to deal with Muschamp and friends while also hiring another big name head coach.

Gundy is not pals with the de facto administration of OSU in the person of T. Boone. I'd guess that will be all that's needed to pull him away.

Gundy has privately flirted with a number of different jobs. He inquired about ours when we hired Sumlin. Did the same with Arky and UT a few years ago. He doesn't get along with the AD and doesn't like putting up with T Boone.

Interesting. Good point, I don't see how anybody could put up with his incessant habit of inserting himself into every aspect of the school like he does.

Possibly

don't think so. Patterson is pretty entrenched at TCU and his wife's family are huge donors. If he was going to leave he had a lot more motivation a few years ago but now that they are in a P5 conference, the reasons are pretty sparse. You'd think money but money will never be an issue for Patterson whether he coaches another game or not. That family is beyond wealthy and you don't piss off your inlaws who are worth billions to make an extra million per year.

He's also a defensive coach and they've specifically stated they are looking for an offensive hire.

Oh I know they have the money I'm just curious at what the final tally for the Muschamp experiment + new guy is going to be. You have to think that it factored into Foley's decision to keep CWM around as long as he did.

I actually think Chad Morris is a much better bet than:

Mike Gundy (Oklahoma State) 4/1
Jim McElwain (Colorado State) 9/2
Bob Stoops (Oklahoma) 11/2
Dan Mullen (Mississippi State) 11/2
Mike Shanahan (Unemployed) 7/1

Rich Rodriguez (Arizona) 7/1
Steve Spurrier (South Carolina) 8/1
Hugh Freeze (Ole Miss) 9/1

Gary Patterson (TCU) 12/1
Gus Malzahn (Auburn) 12/1
