The Rebels are at the bottom of the SEC standings, just got smashed 66-3 by Alabama and will get hammered even worse when NCAA nails them for rampant cheating. Then, of course, there’s the embarrassing little issue of forcing coach Hugh Freeze to resign a couple of months ago for allegedly soliciting an escort service.

I don’t elicit any joy from Mississippi’s misery, but it does prove the point I’ve been writing about for years when it comes to the ridiculous inequity in college football. The only reason the Mississippi schools are in the SEC is because they were in the right place at the right time 100 years ago when the major conferences were formed.

In today’s world, they don’t really bring much to the table. They don’t bring TV markets. They don’t bring national interest. They don’t bring much upside and potential.

There’s a reason the last SEC champion to come out of Mississippi was in 1963 when Ole Miss won the title four years before the league even integrated. The fact is, schools such as Ole Miss and Mississippi State are simply taking up a spot that would be better suited for thriving universities in major markets like UCF and USF.

The only reason USF and UCF aren’t in Power Five leagues is because they are relatively new universities that didn’t have a football team a century ago when the leagues were formed. If the major conferences were starting from scratch today and holding a draft; UCF and USF would be in and Ole Miss and Mississippi State would be out.

I mean this is all factually correct. We wouldn't take both though, just one. I'm really surprised the Big 12 hasn't picked them up.

He was making sense until he tried to make a point for UCF and USF .

If you were to bring in Clemson, NC State, UNC or Virginia Tech, then I would agree with getting rid of one of the Mississippi Schools.

But for USF or UCF? frick outta here with that shite!

Typical Millienial thought pattern. “I’m new here and I want everything you have but I don’t expect to have to do the work to get it”

Better idea - we make this year's Egg Bowl for who gets to stay in the conference

We add the Purple Pirates - that gives us the NC tv markets and is an equal trade on academics - seems like a win/win

Past 5 years vs P5:
MSU 22-22 (and our P5's have been considerably better than theirs)
USF 3-18 (2 of those 3 wins vs a terrible Syracuse) UCF 4-10

And in those seasons average SOS (according to teamrankings.com):
MSU 26
USF 69
UCF 73

Mike, how is it your Florida schools have played much, much weaker schedules, yet have much worse records, particularly vs P5?

A poster on the pack broke it down pretty well.

Two things: one that ain't happening and two, y'all don't honestly think we give a shite do you? I'd be just fine seeing us play in another conference. PEROID. And that's all sports.

The SEC is too old school gentlemanly to throw them out.

UCF actually does make sense. They have around 40-50k enrollment. They are the largest university in Florida.

That being said, Bianchi is a hack. He literally has written this story 3 times now

That's life. Sometimes it's not fair. Ole Miss and State made smart investments by joining the SEC. Too bad for other universities they were too dumb to not see the potential
