Ohio alone is like a who's who: Bob Stoops, Urban Meyer, Tom Herman, etc.

Hell, West Virginia would put southern states to shame. Lou Holtz, Nick Saban...

Why is that? Population, culture, what?

Is Tom Herman really at the level that he can be compared to Bob Stoops and Urban Meyer?

All those good coaches and not a one of them chooses to coach at Missouri.

Because they mix intelligence and education with experience.

Do you people think we're just fricking with you when we say as a collective group you southern folk are slow?

It's a stereotype because it's true.

Coaches from Ohio:
Woody Hayes
Jon Gruden
Bo Pelini
Gary Pinkel
All the Stoopses
Lou Holtz (technically born in WV, but right on the WV/OH border, and grew up in Ohio)
Jim Tressel
Mark Dantonio
Les Miles
Bo Schembechler
Urban Meyer

Probably more that I can't think of right now.

Saban is from WV, but played for Kent State and got his first HC job at Toledo.

This. It is really a hybrid of Appalachian and Southern culture, mixed in with a Pennsylvania foothills accent and that is basically WV. So close to Ohio and PA, but not a lot in common with Maryland directly to the East, except for in Cumberland. Turning into a decent football rivalry though. The teams are never at the top of the national food chain but there is a lot of bad blood between Maryland and West Virginia. Also Maryland and Penn State.
