Tim Brando (Fox Sports)

Home Run Hire in Tuscaloosa. Avery Johnson's a friend that I covered while he played at Southern. Without CBB experience but connected.

Tim Brando (Fox Sports)
@TimBrando
Bill Battle clearly felt it was imperative to get a recognizable name. Avery's definitely that, and will do a great job. Congratulations.

Seth Davis (CBS Sports, Sports Illustrated)
@SethDavisHoops
This has been a great few weeks for SEC hoops. Barnes, Howland, now Avery Johnson coming into the league. Way to step it up.

Bill Simmons (ESPN)
@BillSimmons
Big congrats to @coachavery6 for his new gig. Loved getting to know him last year - total joy to be around. I'm on the Bama Hoops bandwagon!

Ian Fitzsimmons (ESPN Radio)
@Ianfitzespn
Avery Johnson is a great hire by Alabama. Fiery competitor who will win and a coach who will be out in the community.

@Ianfitzespn
“@clintellis: @Ianfitzespn Your opinion on the level of hire, if Bama hires Avery Johnson?”> Said this earlier - home run hire.

Paul Finebaum
Quite frankly, not only do I think it salvages the day, I really think in many ways this is a better hire than Gregg Marshall," Finebaum said. "I say it's a better hire because Avery Johnson wants the job. He wants to be there. He's enthusiastic. He's excited. He's not heartbroken about leaving behind a team, a city and a legacy.

@finebaum
I think @CoachAvery6 would be a fascinating hire for Alabama.

Ian Rapoport (NFL, Sports Illustrated)
@RapSheet
Incredible RT @GoodmanESPN: Avery Johnson made a verbal agreement to coach at Alabama, sources told ESPN. Contract details being finalized

Cris Carter (ESPN)
@CrisCarter80
Congrats @CoachAvery6 being selected as Alabama next basketball coach. Great coach, and a better Man. God Bless you and your fam. #RollTide

Gentry Estes
@Gentry_Estes
Avery Johnson is a fascinating hire at Alabama. Bit of a gamble, but it makes sense given the excitement they'd like to build for program.

Suck it, Rant.

You seem insecure about the hire, why is that?

I'm not insecure about shite. I've been fapping all day.

Just trying to help all you ranters out so you can get on board and not look like fools by trying to pretend like this is anything other than a great hire.

The rest of the national media response will surely make you people feel silly.

Great hire. I'm thrilled he'll be off TV and screaching in the middle of nowhere.

It took him 3 years to find a job so he takes work where he can find it.

I'm way more excited about Avery Johnson than Marshall. Agree it's a better hire.

Cannot wait until next season.

No need to bend over backwards, trying to convince folks here.
Be happy with your school's hire, and leave it at that.
Hope it works out for y'all.

So you're telling me that the media likes the hire of a guy who is also in the media... Got it.

It could end up being a good hire, but they'd say the same thing for Mark Jackson and that would not be a good hire.

Notice how most of those guys work for ESPN? What do you think they are gonna say about a colleague?
