This is what a few senior bowl practices and a great combine can do for you. Da Juice Maine

Has a TE ever went that high?

Regardless if he doesn't go 4th...he'll still be a very high pick! OJ

On my "pretty neat" scale of 1-10 this is about a 6.

Damn I was hoping this would at least get a 7 in your pretty neat scale. I will try harder.

Because the "expert" had said so. I mean he's right 8% of the time every time.

Probably the same reason we wasted a shite ton of money on julius thomas a few years back... or when we drafted marcedes lewis first round, and then continued to overpay him for over a decade. I believe they want a good te.

He'll be a great TE. Was very underutilized in college

He will be good, but Engram will be better.

McShay said he considered running back Leonard Fournette at No. 4 but thought he may quit on his team, and was just so impressed with what he has seen from Howard on film and throughout the pre-draft process.

I love OJ, but any team with a pick as high as 4th overall, unless acquired by trade, isn't going to suddenly fix anything by acquiring a TE.

vernon Davis was drafted sixth and I think kellen Winslow was as well.

Because they are one of the worse franchises in the NFL. TEs are the 3rd or 4th WRs in todays NFL Passing Game, and at best are late first or early second round selections. If it was NE, I could see them using a early pick to get a good TE, but JAX has too many other issues.

So underutilized in college. At least the Bama critics can't say his body overused.

Agree. Engram will put up better numbers over his career. If he falls second round, NE will scoop him up

I think he's going to be a huge weapon in the NFL and its baffling he wasn't used more in college.

Matchup nightmare on any level of football.

The reason it is "baffling" to some as to how OJ was used in his career stems from his inability to block his first couple of seasons. Whenever OJ subbed in, those that watch BAMA play regularly knew it was a pass. He was a liability in the run game. He improved greatly his last 2 seasons and you saw his numbers jump up as well. Also, remember Amari Cooper, Calvin Ridley, and company took a lot of possible touches with them.

He was an incredibly good blocker the last 2 years.

He was criminally under used.
