I think at the point of the movie he's wearing the sweatshirt, its basically just a piece of clean, dry clothing they gave him after rescue.

Movie dude. Movie. Deepwater horizon. The oil rig that exploded in the gulf. Lots of Louisiana guys involved with working oil rigs. Those guys are LSU fans.

He gave an extended interview to 60 Minutes and to the NY Times. He testified in front of Congress.
He sold his story to Lionsgate and Mark Wahlberg. He was there on set every day of filming as a consultant.
Sometimes, they didn't take his advice. Because, it's a movie, not a documentary. But he was there to call bullshite on stuff, regardless of whether they paid any attention to him.
