Mandel - the theoretical super conference of 2024

So that no one feels compelled to click the link.
Mandel is basically saying that, if current trends continue, that he expects one, 24 team mega conference. It's basically a grouping of the largest fanbases and most prolific programs.
His argument stems from normally marquee matchups in non-playoff bowls seeing huge declines in viewship. The Fiesta bowl had ND vs OSU, and less than 10 million people watched - less than watched Alabama and LSU play a regular season game.
So... thoughts? Do you think the CFB landscape could become so NFL-esque?

Dumb, stupid, bad for the game, shitting on history and tradition adn everything that makes CFB great.
But, I'm sure there's billions to be made from it so the higherups will try to make it happen eventually.

Too many logistical and common sense hurdles. Glad they are there too, because that is so stupid.

What did College Football look like 8 years ago ? Things do not change that much over an 8 year period.

South Division is the SEC West minus Mississippi and plus Tennessee. Mandel must be a Bama fan.

Something like this is going to be formed. I still think the P5 is going to completely break away from the NCAA and form its own organization.

No playoffs is the key component.
To be fair, though, CFB didn't change much from 1936 until the first Bowl Coalition game in 1992 (pitting 1 vs 2), and then the BCS becoming a singular nominator for champion (in 1998). Considering how long it went without any major changes in regards to how champions were determined, and the rapid fire pace it's done it in the last 20 or so years, it's not absurd to think we could see another huge change in the next 5-10.
That said, I don't think this will be it.

What is the difference between Mandel's proposal and the NFL? The only difference would be in the legal constructs that allow college football to operate in a different "market" than the NFL and vice versa. This being America, there would be a sound argument for those legal constructs to be rejected in favor of open competition. Then, college football ceases to exist.
The NFL cannot let this proposal happen. It has an interest in being free from competition, maintaining its free farm system, and avoiding the liability that would come with the added competition.

Everything that CFB has done recently. Realignment, playoffs etc has shite on tradition and history in the name of money.
It should surprise nobody to see that continue.

This would be great. Keep the conferences as they are but have all P5 teams only play other P5 teams.

Make them a separate entity from the NCAA while they're at it. That way we can avoid that pesky Title IX.

You don't have to make a super conference to do that though. All you need is for the 75 or so P5 teams to break away and form their own division and only play each other. That gives you better OOC match ups as well as a better playoff system. You could also go back to the original conferences and bring back the Big 8 and SWC. With a new division the the networks can give far, far better deals on rights.

awful. This is what the NFL is for.

The idea of a 24 team superconference is as stupid and money grubbing and ridiculous as...
well, Stewart Mandel.
well, Stewart Mandel.

I see something like this happening, but with 32 teams.
I think everyone on this board needs to be prepared for being in a mega-conference that is run by Texas.

That's just a result of fans gaining knowledge about football.
