Because I'm replying to different people. If I were to hit reply to just one person, then it's not clear who the post is directed at.
For instance, if I quote you in your post but hit reply to the person that posted below you, that person would be "WTF? I didn't post that."
It's keeping with conversation. To do it otherwise is the equivalent to talking to someone in a room but looking directly at someone else.

Same thing said every year. LSU was 2nd highest ranked SEC team last year.
