Once it became apparent that Herman was going to Texas, LSU had all the time in the world to evaluate and interview potential candidates. The job is one of the best in the country and would have garnered a lot of interest from some bright young coaches. What was the big hurry?

Our AD doesn't understand the concept of negotiating.

Really, you can't understand why Western Michigan's coach wasn't picked? I like pj fleck but it isn't like he is a clear slam dunk pick.

As for the OP, there was time pressure due to recruiting and locking in Aranda. They vetted 12 potential prospects and outside of Herman there were not a whole lot of great choices.

That's my opinion too. Even if you hire O. To not interview anyone for the job tells me that Alleva was out for control. I don't see how you dont wait until after the bowl game to make your pick. PJ Fleck was and is my favorite name out there. He took a team. From 1-11 to 8-5 for two years and is now 12-0. He is also a Jim Tressel guy. He coached in the NFL. We could have saved the same money and gotten an Offensive guy. Now we get to change offense or Defense or both....Everytime a HC job opens up and we have a good year. Just dumb hire that hurt recruitment in the future. 3 year and we will be doing the same thing again. I love O... But other than recruiting... He brings nothing noteworthy to the table.

O is about to build a dynasty here. But we are weeding out the weaklings right now.

Yes, I really can't.....after your top 2 picks weren't available, why not consider him? In your opinion is there a reason he shouldn't other than he coaches Western Michigan? I mean proving yourself at a smaller school is the path to getting to a bigger program

No one panics like Alleva panics. It's his goto move.

Not sure, only thing I can think of is they had a pecking order with Jimbo being first on the list, Heman second and O third. That's the people they felt they could get and felt would be a fit at LSU.
What it looks like with Jimbo was he wanted to win the lottery for his services, I think it was 7.7 million for 10 years. Only coach out there worth that is Saban, Fisher is good but not that good. LSU then makes a move for Herman, who(rumor) agrees to come to LSU for x amount. Again rumor has it he and his agent then decide they want to wait on Texas and start a bidding war. Could be that Aleva gets pissed and pulls offer because he is mad, or that he was willing to chance Herman but not at a higher pice and contract length.
Possible that both Fisher and Herman showed they only cared about making a payday and Aleva had a coach that was excited to coach at LSU and to him was a good fit.
Of coarse I have no idea if that's what happened I can only hope.

Well, considering that the ONLY coach in the whole USA at any level of football that wanted the LSU job is Coach O, I guess that LSU had to move quickly to hire Coach O before some Division III school out there hired him.

Only Coach O wanted the job -- only ONE guy wanted the job.

LSU must really suck.

I'm pretty sure our AD is eating at home this week. He sure isn't very popular in Red Stick
