We just hired him as a DB coach. I know he coached at all of your programs, any comments on him as a coach or as a recruiter?

Damn. What a solid pickup. The guy knows how to coach.

Very good coach and was a great evaluator of talent. Don't think he was a great recruiter but it's been awhile so I might be wrong there.

Excellent hire. Had heard he doesn't like to recruit, but on the field, he's amazing.

On the field he's one of the best.
Recruiting however is a strong weakness.
SO about the same as Chavis but better as a position coach.

Just saw that Terry Joseph left for UNC. Any details on that? Moved along or money play?

Coach wise, one of the best.
His recruiting cost him his job at LSU, and was a liability.
Solid pick up any way you look at it.

I really like that A&M is adding coaches with SEC experience (Mazzone, Chavis, Cooper, Turner, and the new Strength and Conditioning coach).

Top Drawer, no doubt. I believe he was our DB coach with Peterson, Mathieu, Claiborne, Ron Brooks, Brendan Taylor, and Tharold Simon all of whom are in the league and doing well.

I met him a few years back. Solid coach. You will be happy and should see difference in DB play. He's a great get for you guys for real.

He's excellent as a DB coach! Recruiting did not cost him his job. He left after the 2011 year for the pro's.

He did a good job at LSU. He left because he wanted to spend more time with his family, and obviously not having to recruit in the NFL. Still I'm a little surprised how he hasn't bounced back quicker since being fired from the Bucs. I assumed people would be beating down his door to hire, so there's obviously more to his story.
Considering how hot Rumlin's seat is, this is as good of a hire as you can possibly get.

Where is this other LSU you speak of?

I meant to say MSU. I guess I can fix it.

He's the best DB coach in the country IMHO.
I've known Ron since his days at Eastern Michigan.
Great hire. Instant upgrade for the A&M Secondary.
Oddly and ironically enough, last night I had a little cigar smoking bourbon drinking get-together post-signing day thing and Ron's name came up because I have a picture of Ron and me in my man cave from when he was coaching at Eastern Michigan (I was in a wedding of staff member's of his) ... he and I got to be fairly good friends when Lou brought him here.
One of the guys who was here last night remains in touch with Ron ... a former staff member under both Lou and the HBC - but there was no mention of the move to A&M although we all agreed he would land somewhere better in a hurry.
LULZing at those talking about the expense account stuff. Who cares when the guy can recruit and coach like he can.

His one year at State was Jackie's last year when the wheels had completely come off the program, so take it with a grain of salt, but we finished dead last in D1A that year in total defense.

We had him as a defensive coordinator in 2003. It didn't work out to well. He gave up 39.5 points per game and considered the worst D.C. State ever had. That's at D.C.
He is a better DB coach what I've heard.
