As we approach the 10 year anniversary of the chop can someone explain to me why there was so much outrage over this from LSU fans? Obviously nobody likes to see those plays happen but they happen literally every week in college football and have been committed many times by LSU players before and since.
Yes Dorsey left the game but came back and finished the game, LSU won the game, finished the season and was a high NFL draft pick and LSU won the national title that year so it's not like it negatively effected him or your team long term.
Why did this particular chop block draw so much ire from LSU fans?

Because Dorsey was the best player in college football and deserved better respect from his opponent.
Ramsey, most likely, was told to "sweep the leg" by his coaches.

It was a dirty play by a dirty player from a POS family.
Glenn was LSU's superstar. He was All-World. Won every award. And was an amazing teammate and person.
And despite winning the title that year and being drafted highly, he never fully recovered from that chop block. He lost all his explosiveness.

Still bitter over that time Hulk slept with Elizabeth, I see.

Complaining and making mountains out of mole hills is just what most LSU fans do. I don't know why, but it sure makes for good entertainment.

Also it just adds to the shite between Auburn and LSU i.e. cigar game, fight with our band, etc.
ETA:
If LSU chop blocked Cam Newton and he never ran well again and never looked the same for the rest of his career, Auburn fans would still hold a grudge.
Same goes for the clear super star who is beloved on any team.

A.) Dorsey was one of the most popular players ever
B.) Tuberville was always hated here and people just assumed he ordered the guy to do it.

Dorsey might have been the best and most dominant DT in LSU history. He was never the same player after that play. Considering he was the best player on the team that year...I think it is easy to think or suggest that it was a form of targeting.(not saying the injury was intentional) just that the play itself was.
Nobody had a guy on their team that could handle him and this was echoed by many SEC coaches at the time.

Because Tuberville was a bush league coach who ordered that hit.
It was so blatant. That's the kind of play that keeps them from a NFL career.
Dorsey came back for his sr year too.

Because Glen Dorsey was a highly decorated player that won almost every award imaginable.

If I recall, the play before (or a couple plays before), Glenn Dorsey completely embarrassed Ramsey. The chop block was seen as a retaliation from that play.
No matter how you slice and dice it, it was dirty as hell and Dorsey was never the same again

And it happened more than once that season by the same player. In retrospect, it doesn't seem like that big of a deal so I do get the OP's point.

Dorsey was blowing their OL up until that play.

As it was said before, he humiliated Ramsey.
It was a zone blocking away and Dorsey literally humiliated and threw Ramsey like a child then destroyed the ballcarrier. That was one of the biggest staples of Glenn's career.

Bull rushed him and threw him on his arse on way to a TFL on the RB. Ran through him like a wet paper towel.
Like 2 plays later he gets cheap shotted in the legs and is never the same.

quote:Yep. And then a year later didnt Ramsey do something that showed he was a true piece of shite even more and Auburn fans turned on him as well?
