I had kind of assumed all along his background as an assistant was on defense since y'all have been pretty strong there recently while struggling on the other side of the ball.

After doing some quick research it appears his experience lies on the offensive side of the ball. Why are y'all so bad on the side of the ball your coach specializes in? Does this not make you question his abilities?

That's what happens when you're not a good football coach. Riding the coattails of another coach's recruiting classes is easy. Ask Larry Coker.

I mean our defense sucks but Sumlins coaching experience is all on offense. Stands to reason we are a good DC hire away from putting it all together.

You can make an argument Miles isn't the best coach on his own staff

He and CC live and die by the pro-style offense. When you have the right personnel, it can be quite effective (LSU 2013: first and only in SEC history to have a 3k QB, 1k RB, and two 1k WRs)

A better question is why does LSU keep recruiting dual threat QB's/athletes instead of finding an accurate dropback QB? That would solve a lot of their issues IMO.

He has an offensive line background more than anything. His 3 years as an OC his first 2 years the offenses were bad, the third year it was respectable (29.33 pts/game).

With three guys who are now starting as rookies in the NFL (two of whom look like future stars). Needing all world talent to have a semi effective offense doesn't really constitute a good system. Plenty of schools run a pro style offense with regular college talent and do it effectively

He is a former OL player and coach, with a short stint as a TE coach in the NFL. I didn't follow OSU when Miles was the OC. He will always favor a strong running game, which wears out weak opposition like aTm (see 2013). His offensive philosophy places more emphasis on the OL and running game, versus the QB. His QBs are a part of the system, not the system. Saying that, we need better QB play.

I'm so sick of seeing this... He won the 2007 championship with Saban's FRESHMEN. He still had to develop that talent. Les Miles also hand-selected each member of one of the greatest teams in history, the 2011 team. Retarded post, bro.

Wait what? Is 2012 Notre Dame also considered in this group?

There ain't none in La. He's going to have to go to Texas to find one but most of the good ones there go on to Texas, Oklahoma, Ok State or elsewhere. To get a QB to play at LSU, you really gotta go scour the jails, bars and JuCo's (Mett and JJ [not a dropback Qb though] come to mind).

You assumed the specializes part, admit it? Les specialized in 2 things:
1. grass quality
2. clock management: he's at epic levels here

Your question has been answered. What are you hoping to accomplish? LSU passing offense stinks this season. To beat a&m, I don't think LSU will have to pass much. LSU's bread and butter will always be running the ball under Miles, so you'll get to try and stop it this Thursday.

Oh, Sumlin played LB in college, so even if he has only coached offense, you would think he would know more about defense.

Legendary defense unit but that's where the GOAT comparisons stop. That offense was mediocre. Not even as good as Bama's 92 offense.

aTm hasn't smelled a conference championship this century, much less won one. At the end of the day, you know exactly what you are

We're not talking about A&M. We're talking about Les/LSU and his ability to waste talent.
