I have been to Tuscaloosa for games in '05, '07, '09, '11 and now I am going back for this year's game.
We just tailgated at random tailgates and bar hopped at those games but this year we are looking to set up a spot.

Any areas recommended to set up for us to go that isn't "claimed ground"?

Mississippi has some nice state parks.

Typically, there is a large LSU camp in the area around Central High School

Pick any place on the west side of 69.

Hmm, what time are you planning on getting into town to set up?

If you get there on Friday afternoon, I think that you will easily be able to find a spot on the quad. If getting there a little late, you can probably find a place by/in between the school buildings.

But you must let us know where you end up so I can come get some gumbo and jambalaya.

Probably getting in town around 9PM -930PM so we will have a late start to finding a spot.

That's fine, just clean up after yourself and leave me some gumbo in the deep freezer.

Just considering the magnitude of the game/weekend, I probably wouldn't bank on getting a great spot on the quad, but you will find somewhere.

Thanks for the help.

At LSU, we have a serious problem with people that think they own their "spot" and get mad each week if someone gets there early before them and sets up there.
Is it like that for Bama fans that regularly tailgate? We aren't looking to getting into an argument if we set up in an area near the quad.

There will be other LSU fans spread out across campus, but if you're looking for a large group of them, you might have to go near the RV lots or maybe an off-campus site where they congregate.

I suppose it's possible, but I'd think anyone who thinks like that would have their tents set up before you get there.

Just find a spot and put your tent up to claim it.
