Everything you said is spot on, but the positive side of that ying of which you refer was being overwhelmed by the negative yang in recent years.
Les lost the fire man. The edge of your seat was quickly becoming empty seats, and it was apparent Les was incapable of bringing the magic back.
LSU football is better because of Les, but if it is to remain at a level he helped get it to we need some new magic. He's run out of it. There was no shot at winning the division or even a punchers chance against Bama with him continuing to coach. As a fan you have to know your coach is both trying like hell to win and competent, and Les was neither in the latter part of his tenure. That offense was unwatchable and stood zero shot at even remotely competing for anything. Isn't the point to compete for championships at a place like LSU? Not Tax Slayer bowl victories?
Let a fiery up and coming young star like Tom Herman get a chance to be the one to kill the giant ( Saban) and you will see Tiger Stadium return to its former glory. Let a proven guy like Jimbo who loves LSU and who you know would embrace a chance against his former master utilize the talent to its fullest potential. It's LSU, the place, that is magical - not a person -especially on a Saturday night in Death Valley with a team in the hunt. You'll be tuning in not to see LSU struggle to put away a vastly less talented opponent, but to unleash its might and watch the carnage unfold once again. To know that the LSU-Bama game will be that epic battle of gods once again, not a pitiful mismatch of wits.

quote:Yeah, actually he did get a farewell tour last season. LSU was even nice enough to grant him four extra games this season.
they didn't even let him make it to October for a farewell tour

I was thinking more of winning percentage.
