You scored below the average allowed with Miles/Cameron, and above the average with Orgeron/Ensminger.

Now you're getting it.

However you break it down Alabamas offense destroys bad defenses averages in PPG and Yards.

FIFY

Alabama has only played one defense with a pulse, and it was a very average one. Denying that is incredibly homerish.

There's really not a stat out there that makes LSU look better than Bama. It's kinda sad.

USC and A&M are Top 20-30 type defenses. Good, not elite.

LSUs "new" offense has also not faced an even average defense so far.

Point is Alabama has blown away even average defenses usual performances. Doesn't mean a whole lot, but it shows that Alabama isn't just doing the norm against those average defenses. They are pulverizing them.

LSUs "new" offense scored 5 TDs vs Ole Miss while Alabama scored 3 TDs vs Ole Miss...

Care to explain?

Edited to include LSU's defensive TD against Wisky to bring LSU's point total to 14.

the reason you only look at the number at a high level, is because the level of detail needed for an accurate picture would take at least a day to compile ... diving in like this just creates more garbage.

ex.
Should you account for defensive scores?
special teams scores?
Should you reflect the strength of the offenses your opponents have faced?
Should you reflect the strength of the defenses your opponents' opponents have faced?

it's a rabbit hole

Sure there is, and it's kind of a big one.

Alabama isn't great and converting red zone opportunities into touchdowns (62%). LSU is very good at keep opponents out of the endzone once they get inside the two (30%).

Bama's kicker better be on point.

Why would that be sad to a Bama fan?

You're trying too hard.

Because the game is only 60 minutes and the defense and ST stole 3 possessions with thier own touchdowns?

I think it's funny how people think one game changes a teams ranking so drastically. Like they were ranked 54 and then dropped to 90 after playing Bama....

USC is not not top 30 in any meaningful category. The only thing they're even top 40 in is passing defense.

So, again, saying they are good is incredibly homerish.

Well 5 of the 8 teams they've played have a defense ranked outside of the top 75....

And let's not mention that Alabama has scored at least one non offensive TD in all of those games, meaning that average drops by at least 7.

USC gave up 475 yards and 52 pts to Alabama. In all their other games they average giving up 355 yards and 19 points.

Does this somehow make them a top 30 team? I guess we should just go through and throw out the worst game for every team.

Makes sense.

USC is 43rd in PPG allowed at 24.0.

Without Alabama they would be at 21st in PPG at 19.3.

Kent State 23.1 ppg (39th)
Kentucky 32 ppg (92nd)
Arkansas 28.9 ppg (75th)
Tennessee 26.7 ppg (59th)
Texas A&M 19.2 ppg (19th)

Average: #56 (55.875) - 14 spots lower than 70th (70.1)

Taking out LSU:
Wisconsin 14.3 ppg (5th)
Miss State 29.3 ppg (78th)
Auburn 14.3 ppg (4th)
Missouri 27.7 ppg (67th)
Southern Miss 27 ppg (61st)
