LSU helped Auburn and Wisconsins PPG defensive averages. Alabama hasn't done anybody that kind of favor.

So, in other words, when LSU plays a defense that isn't 73rd or worse in the country in points allowed, they lose?

Okay, but when they play with Coach O at the helm instead of Miles, they win.

Average Pts given up excluding Alabama

USC - 17 (Bama 52)
WKU - 28 (Bama 38)
OM - 29 (Bama 48)
Kent - 23 (Bama 48)
Kentucky - 32 (Bama 34)
Arkansas - 29 (Bama 49)
Tennessee - 27 (Bama 49)
A&M - 19 (Bama 33)

Alabama averages 18 more PPG than their opponents give up, 19 more in P5 games.

LSU gives up 15 a game, so at the least you'd have to expect Bama to score 17, probably 24 or if you just use the SEC average 34.

Stats are fun.

LSU's O scored 14 (You didn't reach the average against Wisky)

Auburn: #3 (14.1 ppg)

LSU scored 13 (you didn't reach the average against AU)

Mississippi State: #73 (28.4 ppg)

LSU scored 23. (You didn't reach the average against MSU)
quote:

Missouri: #80 (29.7 ppg)

LSU scored 42. (congrats. You beat the average against Mizzou, but didn't score as many on them as MTSU did)
quote:

Southern Miss: #79 (29.6 ppg)

LSU scored 45. (you beat the average but didn't score as many against USM as Texas San Antonio did the week before)
quote:

Ole Miss: #89 (31.4 ppg)

LSU scored 38. (another one where you beat the average against)
You scored below the average allowed against the three best defenses you played and above the average against the three worst defenses you played.

quote:

USC: #43 (24 ppg)

Bama scored 52. They beat the average by more than double.
quote:

Western Kentucky: #76 (29 ppg)

Bama scored 38. Beat the average against WKU.
quote:

Ole Miss: #89 (31.4 ppg)

Bama got 48. Beat the average against by 17.
quote:

Kent State: #57 (26.3 ppg)

Bama scored 48. Beat the average by nearly double.
quote:

Kentucky: #96 (32.3 ppg)

Bama got 34. Beat the average against.
quote:

Arkansas: #88 (31.3 ppg)

Bama scored 49. Beat the average against by 18.
quote:

Tennessee: #82 (29.9 ppg)

Bama scored 49. Beat the average against by 20.
quote:

Texas A&M: #27 (21.1 ppg)

Bama scored 33. Beat the average against by 12.

Bama has beaten every team by more than the average against.

Thanks for sharing the numbers. It was fun doing a deeper dive into them to see a clear picture.

Edited to include LSU's defensive TD against Wisky to bring LSU's point total to 14.

I like how you excluded LSUs defensive TD vs Wisconsin but included all of Alabamas defensive TDs

That's legit

And that's including Bama in the average. If you properly remove them the Bama vs Avg grows to almost 3 TDs.

I guess yards per game is more relevant?

All you did with this post is prove that good defenses shut down LSU. Congrats on making me feel better about this game.

I'll edit to include it. That gives you 14 points. Still below the average Wisky gives up.

We run roughshod over opponents averages in that stat too, consistently, all year long.

However you break it down Alabamas offense destroys opponents defensive averages in PPG and Yards.
