Given he brought them more success than the program has ever tasted, that speaks volumes

Maybe, maybe not. The guy may be a world class a-hole, but College baseball players are notorious for being prima donnas. Getting begged to play select ball all of their formative years creates a lot of self-importance. Add a helicopter parent and you've got a coaches nightmare.

What exactly are you fooling yourself that "normal" is?
The period between Bryant and Saban, when your version of the GOBN were running the football program.

You know, when you won the SEC 3 times (twice outright, once a three-way tie) in 24 years, and won one NC - while going through 8 coaching changes, 3 major NCAA investigations uncovering major violations, and forfeiting or vacating 29 victories.

Yeah, I know, it'll be different this time, because you'll just hire another Bryant/Saban.

More likely you'll end up with someone like those guys than any of the others.

Would be very surprising if Byrne hasn't reached out to his top 3 candidates already.

University of Alabama head baseball coach Greg Goff has been relieved of his duties, The Tuscaloosa News has learned. The Tuscaloosa News previously reported that Goff attempted to reduce or revoke scholarships for up to 10 players in violation of NCAA rules during their exit interviews earlier this week. Players who are still on campus were called to a 1 p.m. meeting to receive the news. UA athletic officials met with Goff on Wednesday and were in meetings throughout the morning to discuss the decision. UA athletic officials also reached out to some players and their families to advise them to wait before making decisions on whether to transfer.

As a MSU fan, how was Byrne as an AD at State?

Beloved by our generation. The older dogs may or may not have understood his ideas, but he was a ray of hope after years of old-school thinking at State.

He never was afraid to do what needed to be done

Not a great stretch by Alabama's standards, but one many other schools would gladly trade for.

and won one NC

How many did your team win during that time?

while going through 8 coaching changes

Perkins, Curry, Stallings, DuBose, Franchione, Shula (every coach who actually coached a season at Bama) all had at least one 10 win season during that time. Bama was down a bit (mainly Dubose & Shula) but certainly not OM, MSU, Vandy, KY, Mizz, Arky, etc levels of bad. In fact, Bama's 9 seasons of 10 wins or more during that time is better than your team's 8 such seasons. Interesting.

3 major NCAA investigations

The Albert Means stuff was bad. No doubt about that and not gonna excuse make for it. As for the other two investigations during that time, one was b/c Langham signed on a napkin and lied about it then Stallings got belligerent with NCAA (let's not act like Bama was investigated for pay for play or something). The other was for textbook issue and that was self reported. Not like they were trying to hide it.

today's college football is about recruiting first. Bama will likely hire Dabo and keep recruiting and winning at a great clip. And Saban will make sure Dabo knows how to handle the job. Also, let's not act like the leadership today isn't light years ahead of the Bob Bockrath days.

I understand that it has become a coping mechanism of sorts for some (read: FearlessFreep) to envision that Bama will fall of the map when Saban retires, but if that moron Les Miles can maintain what Saban built at LSU, then I am certain Dabo can somehow manage to keep at least 90% of what Saban has built.

Would be a poor decision, IMO, to not at least give him a couple years. frick all the titty baby players and mommas who don't like the big bad coach because he doesn't do things the way they used to. There is nothing worse in sports than mommas and daddies who think they know more than a coach. A close second is players who are older and get butt hurt because the new guy hurt their feelings, and they'd rather lose and the new guy catch heat than buy in and do what they're supposed to do.

If this was the only issue then you would be correct. But this is just the tip of the iceberg. The guy is a complete a-hole who has his own rules and never should have been hired. All of his wins at Campbell have been vacated. Bama doesn't need anyone violating any NCAA rules. Not even the damn tiddly winks coach, much less the baseball coach.

Took us three years to find out what the Oklahoma folks tried to tell us when we hired Sunny Golloway. So y'all appear to be ahead of the curve, if what is rumored about Goff is accurate.

Wonder if he will sue y'all for wrongful termination?
