What do you think of freshman being allowed to play in two games a year without burning their red shirt? Or being allowed to play in the first two games without losing their red shirt?

so basically you just want to extend eligibility to 5 years to 95% of college athletes?

Why??
I could see this shite storm and the excuses now. This is a horrible idea.

To reward freshman/scout players and to get them in the bullshite games. Now tell me why it's a horrible idea

Ummmm. First 2 weeks of the 2015 schedule LSU vs. MState is week 2. Alabama vs. Wisconsin is week 1. It's not always cupcake teams those first 2 games (a)....(b)
quote:What about rewarding your members on the team who have been putting blood, sweat and tears into your program for 4 years but don't have the talent to start but are 2nd or 3rd string guys. I'd rather see that guy in there when the score is up as opposed to a big headed, green freshman. Earn your keep. Just my 2 cents.

I understand that. That's why I said first two weeks or two games. Everyone plays one or two shite opponents. Put in some freshman in the fourth quarter of the Eastern Michigan or the Jacksonville State game.

Good point but 2nd string guys will or should have played a ton. I can see 3rd stringers wanting to play.

This would basically defeat the purposes of the redshirt. You would basically be getting the players in-game experience without burning the redshirt, which is the whole point of the redshirt. How do you determine what games and parts of games would count?
This is a terrible idea.

you seriously think this would affect that many people? i think it'd more likely affect like the remaining 5% since most ncaa athletes aren't football or basketball players and whatnot.

They get more experience and learn more going agaisnt a tougher opponent at their own practice than against some cupcake.
Hell, give that PT to a 4th or 5th yr senior from the scout team that has worked his arse over for yrs for the team.....A green freshman has lots of opportunities to get PT in the future.

If you're going to do that it would have to be the first two weeks IMO. Reason being to dsee how they perform in a game for the purpose of deciding IF you want to redshirt them.
A limit on max number of plays would be needed to, IMO.

well most students are on the 5-year plan anyway ... so its only fair to grant extra eligibility. They should do it for highschool too.
