Let's pump the brakes on the Alabama offense, especially at QB/Jalen Hurts

I'm re-watching the game and Hurts as well as the offense in general was not all that special. I will forgive his first play fumble. His first TD to Stewart was a solid throw. That came after 3 drives of complete ineptness on offense. The 2nd TD pass to Stewart was a blown coverage that anyone could have completed. The next TD drive to go up 31-3 came after the punter fell on the ball at the 20. Hurts had a good 5 yard TD run, but nothing that wows you. He follows that with a bad pick. Anything else past that point was against a tired and demoralized USC defense who had no help from the offense.

What I failed to see were the long sustained drives you need to win a close SEC battle. I'm fully expecting a close game against Ole Miss with a lot of struggles on offense. Bama's D looks as good as last year but the offense does not yet look like the kind that can grind out wins if the defense has a bad night.

He's at best the #3 true frosh after JG and Shea

frick that. Bama fans are all over the place saying he's the heisman favorite. I saw it posted here. That makes it true.

Agreed. Running game looked bad minus 2 huge runs and the passing game wasn't very good either. Will need a lot of improvement to beat ol miss but the D looks very legit

Well he was a true freshman playing on a big stage in the first game of the year. It's ridiculous to expect people to not be excited. Yes, hold off on the Heisman talk, but the kid played very well for the situation.

Yea, gotta improve things there. We are going to have clunkers of drives and quarters coming up.

Key is going to be the o-line.

Anything short of a unanimous heisman victory will be a complete and utter let down

The pint wasn't the throw he made it was the fact he recognized where the pressure was coming from. For a TF it was impressive performance. Yes he made a mistake but he was as calm good or bad as any senior I've ever seen. What Bamas problem was on offense appeared to be the OL

USC wouldn't have beaten TN Saturday night. That's how bad they looked.

Then why isn't JG playing? Because even with the warts Hurts looked every bit as good as SpaceDobbs.

All I will say is that I'm not as concerned now as I was going into the game. At least now I've seen the potential.

Also, the reason we didn't grind out drives is because we were making explisive plays left and right.

After the first quarter the OL was blowing USC off the ball. Harris' long runs were nice footwork and blasted holes.

What did he do that shouldn't excite everybody? The biggest reason they weren't driving is because the OL couldn't get in a groove/the play calling. And because their were lotsa big plays.

Who is saying he should be in Heisman discussions? If you're going to make shite up and bullshite, at least be funny.

Totally agree - we have some very young and immature fans here at times, and they were putting waaaay too much on the kid. While he is a pretty good player, I thought Barnett's arm was more impressive - and the offensive line missed a lot of assignment early. Hurts' pick was pretty ugly too.

I do think we have some talent with both of those guys. I think either would be starting (no question) at most SEC schools.

Dude, no one said that. Geez. Anyone who did was either some young guy (who doesn't know any better) or some trying to troll you guys - which apparently it worked.

He's got better stats than both of them...probably best to reserve judgment till the other 2 make it to the field...I suspect both UT and Ole Miss fans would be ecstatic if either of those put up similar stats to Hurts in their first outing, limited as it was. That being said, we don't even know who Saban will start in the next game...
