You sure it wasn't because he lost to Auburn and started 2-2 with one of his most talented teams?
That game was just the final straw.

From CBS... LINK

quote:

Les Miles lost his job because he refused to evolve like Nick Saban

The downfall for Les Miles was undoubtedly self-inflicted. No matter how likable he was, how many games he won in the past or how often he ate grass, Miles stubbornly refused to evolve on offense.

In a way, Miles became the latest and most prominent victim of Nick Saban. They were always compared to each other given Saban's past at LSU. Miles and Saban became the SEC's version of Bo Schembechler and Woody Hayes, except Saban changed his offense to adapt to the times and Miles was forever stuck in the past.

The Sabanization of the SEC is now entirely complete.

quote:

While Miles' program gradually declined in recent years, the truth is LSU was never the same since Alabama's 21-0 win over LSU at the 2012 BCS Championship Game following the 2011 season. It's easy to forget just how good LSU was in 2011 and how different offense was at the time.

That LSU team was poised to be remembered as one of the all-time greats. The Tigers went 13-0 and beat eight ranked teams, including three in the top five (Oregon, Alabama and Arkansas). The roster was loaded with 19 future NFL draft picks, guys like Tyrann Mathieu, Morris Claiborne, Odell Beckham, Jarvis Landry and Michael Brockers.

quote:

Miles decided he didn't need to change. He believed handing the ball off to Leonard Fournette in an outdated offense was the best option, even though it wasted Fournette's talent without a real passing threat to keep defenses honest.

Miles elected to continue to be Schembechler, his old coach and mentor at Michigan, and keep coaching his "damn strong football team." Saban realized being Hayes doesn't work this century, and he's now No. 1 with a dual-threat, true freshman quarterback.

quote:

Saban changed. Miles didn't, and it cost him his job.

Not even close. I'm sick of hearing about LSU's talent. Both oline and dline are soft as charmin and got dominated by both Wisky and Auburn. Their WRs can't catch. Their punter can't punt. Their QB is below average.

They have some good DB's who will be NFLers, Fournette, Guice, and Dural. That's their talent.

All of this.

The talent on this team is overrated. LSU once had a huge talent advantage and they were able to overcome Miles incompetence. Those days are long gone.

2005, 2006, 2007, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 were all more talented LSU teams than this one. They have some DBs and a RB. The overall team talent is mid level SEC.

Not sure what that means.

Anyway, it was never the point that Bama has a great history. No shite.

The thing that was being debated was the uninformed idea that LSU had no high level football history without the coach you lucked into ten years ago.

If you fall into THAT camp, you are uninformed and just plain stupid.

If not, we just have some sort of misunderstanding.

LSU was a consensus top 10-15 program all time before 2000 and Saban

There's still a big gap between LSU and the elite programs in CFB history.

Alabama
Notre Dame
Oklahoma
USC
Texas
Ohio State
Michigan

Those are the elite of the elites. LSU is a tier two program at best. You can multiply the number of SEC championships LSU has won over the years by two and it still won't equal the number Alabama has.

So the recruiting sites are only wrong about the LSU talent, but spot on for everyone else.

Well that's subjective, isn't it? What's your definition of "high level"? It's one thing to say you are a Top 15 program in college football history, but just how many teams have sustained relevant success since 1869?

There is a huge gap between #5 and #10 in the rankings. I can guarantee you that.

Yeh no shite. Jesus Christ y'all are the most insecure fanbase on the planet

I only responded because someone said, which is something I see Bama fans lost a lot, that LSU was mediocre and covered in shot before 2000. That simply is factually false

You even admit it

At one point, Les was 3-2 against Saban, but more importantly, 5-2 against Bama.

How so? Alabama has more on field victories than Notre Dame does. Michigan has more wins but lack national championships in the poll era. Since the AP poll began keeping track in 1936, they've won 2 national championships (1948 and 1997).
