Good for him :) He's a very hard worker and he should make a fine coach.

So, he signed a 4-year deal with the 49ers back in 2013 and later in the year was placed on the "reserve/non-football injury" list. What happened, exactly?
I never really saw much of him once he got drafted, so I really didn't know. It doesn't seem as though his exit was related to his knee injury, though. Did he do something else?
At any rate, best wishes to him!

It was his knee I think. Something about it just never healing enough to be able to do something like play pro football. If I'm not mistaken, we (being SC or 49er fans) kept hoping he would be taken off the list and ready to go, but it never happened.

Gotcha. I thought it was likely related, I just wasn't sure. That's a shame. He seems like a good kid and he was exciting to watch, for sure. I think he'll do well in coaching and this new gig will be a better starting point for him.

He was never able to rehab his leg back to a point where he thought he could play NFL football.
He had taken out a $1.7 million insurance policy before his Jr. season. That policy had stipulations about being able to play in the NFL etc. That policy figured in his decision to "retire" from the NFL. He also collected his $300K signing bonus from the NFL and 1.5 years of his 4 year, 3.3 Million contract (A little over $1 million). Nice money, but not "step off" money, especially for someone in their 20's.

It was a pretty quick turnaround from him announcing he was going to the NFL to suddenly popping up on a number of local TV ads.
