Making a return trip down to the Nooga and will be passing through Knoxville. Didn't see much during the first trip besides downtown and the Tennessee River before getting lost in some hills. Besides seeing Neyland stadium is their any other points of interest around campus or in the city. Food, nature, football, arts and specialty shops will do just fine.

I just moved to Knoxville recently. I've been here for about three months. In my limited knowledge, I'd recommend World's Fair Park and going up to the observation deck of the Sun Sphere. There is also a free art museum next the the parking lot for the park. It's decent. There is a pretty new park called High Ground Park on Cherokee Trail the runs behind the UT Hospital. It is a short walking trail that leads to park that overlooks the river and downtown and the mountains. It was an old land fort during the civil war and has a lot of old historical landmarks along the walking trail. There is also the Ijams Nature Center. It has walking trails and a rock quarry. I don't have too much to offer as far as food. I would recommend Litton's Bakery but is a little bit outside of the main part of the city.

Are you coming through now? Rhythm and Blooms concert series is over this weekend. There will be a bunch of different stages in the "Old City"

Dead End BBQ is better than Calhoons.

All the hiking is in the Great Smokey Mt National Park, which is a ways outside of the city.

Kinda related, not trying to hijack the thread, but I stopped by Neyland on my way to Hilton Head in September to see the stadium updates. I like the brick addition, looks alot better. But the old steel and rust that is exposed everywhere and what not...curious as to what the Vols on here think about that, and whether you'd rather build a new stadium from the ground up?

OMG BBQ sound so good. I'll save my appetite for that then....

I think the Theatre was the last place I remember before riding over a river and getting lost....

Yes. In Cincy/NKY area.... If I wasn't in such a rush on a short trip I would take the detour to see the Smokey Mountains or the Ryhtm and Blooms concert you reference. Maybe I'll spare myself more than 2 hours in the city...

One thing you need to know: the Strip/Cumberland Ave. is being expanded so prepare for traffic if you head down it via car. If you are here when UT is out of session it won't be bad at all but if not it's better to walk that area than drive it depending on the time of day.

You're talking on the side facing the river where there's still metal? I'm sure they'll eventually put a facade there too but we still have other upgrades to make in those areas including to the ramps so they likely won't put bricks there until that's done. Our upgrades are scheduled in phases and we still have many more to do.

And no, it would be sacrilege to build a new stadium. That's why we are happy to pay more upgrading than building a new one.

Since you're going through Chattanooga...you'd better hit up Armando's.

Edit: The one in East Ridge with the Bi Lo or Food Lion shopping center.
