Kirby Smart didn’t take to kindly to Butch Jones complimenting his team.

At the SEC spring meetings, Jones said Georgia is one of the best teams in the East. Kirby Smart, always wanting to keep a chip on the shoulder, questioned that.

quote:

“Well, since Butch came to none of our spring practices I don’t know how he’d be able to say that,” Smart said. “I do have a lot of respect for the way they play at Tennessee. They’ve got a really good program, and they do a good job of making their kids play hard. Last year at Alabama, I thought that was probably the most physical team we played. They came out and really played hard. So I’ve got a lot of respect for what they do. But as far as his consideration for us, that’s his opinion.”

I get the whole tempering expectations angle in your first year as a HC, but ol' Krabby Kirby seems a little salty

Obviously and logically, this can only mean one thing. Fear. Vols going in dry between the hedges the 1st of October.

It's somewhere in between embarrassing and redneck, but I love it.

I'm just glad Kirby Smart got off Daddy Saban's tit long enough to try to coach a football team by himself.

Kirby just seems a little...off.

Like he could REALLY work out or he could flame out REALLY hard.

Now that he's flapped his wings and left the nest let's see what he does. I'm not sold on him, but looking forward to keeping up with their season.

Try harder, bud.

quote:

DESTIN, Fla. -- Kirby Smart chuckled to himself for a brief second.

Smart had just been told what Tennessee head coach Butch Jones said about his program about an hour and a half earlier in the day at the beginning of this year's SEC league meetings. It was quite complimentary, too. Jones, without any prompting, said the Bulldogs will be one of the SEC's better teams in 2016.

"I think Georgia is one of the best football teams in our conference and not just on the East side," Jones said. "When you look at the competition on our side, it’s going to be a challenge."

Smart laughed a bit, considering he's been critical of his team at times since assuming full-time duties in January. Throughout the spring, Smart mentioned a need for Georgia to get bigger up front on both sides of the ball.

So Smart publicly disagreed with Jones' assessment on the Bulldogs at this stage of the offseason.

"Since Butch came to none of our spring practices, I don’t know how he would be able to say that," Smart said with a smile.

Funny I was thinking the same thing - don't really know much about him but am interested in seeing how he does this fall.

Out of curiosity...what did he say that was wrong?
