Kinda OT but what happened to "The Fade" route in football?

Has anyone noticed how that play has been eliminated from all football in the past 5-10 years. I'm talking about the throw where the QB basically throws it high and far immediately upon receiving the snap, allowing the receiver the chance to burn the CB and get to it first. It seemed that play happened a lot before, but you never see it now.
Anybody have any clue why? TIA was thinking about it the other day. Plus gives me an excuse to post this...

Wut? The fade route is still thrown all the time in college?

Fade is seriously thrown every game.

Because it's high risk.
I mean who seriously wants to throw a 50-50 ball and put your success in the hands of the opposing teams DB?

Not sure what you've been watching. It's still common

The fade route may be used MORE now. What are you talking about? I think it's probably the most overused play, by far, in football, especially given it's horrible success rate

LOL, I was there for that game. Kimrey came on for that 1 play, everybody in the stands was asking, "who's that guy?" Then he comes up huge!

LSU loves the fade..in fact, it's our only redzone option besides the quick pitch

I guess it was executed different back in the day in my mind then. I rarely see a QB throw from their own 30 yard line of the field immediately when he gets a snap or can't seems to remember one. I'm talking a high 30-40 yard pass thrown barely once the WR starts moving.

You still see it around, but I agree that it is being used less and less. This is perhaps because of the touch needed by the QB and you have to have a receiver that can get off his coverage quickly/on time.
I think I'm biased against the fade, since it was the Cowboys go-to play on 3rd and goal forever and it rarely worked.
