Who do you think has the better chance of being the head coach-in-waiting at Bama between Kiffin and Smart?
I think Kiffin is more likely with his head coaching experience.

Highly doubtful they promote from within

It probably is neither but Smart will not be the guy. Smart will either end up a life long DC for his career or end up at smaller program. Kiffin is intriguing but not sure if he would be a good fit for Bama.

McElwain if he does well at UF.

If jim mcelwain is half decent, probably him

Saban usually recommends Houston Nutt when he leaves a program.

Neither. Bama won't repeat the same mistake Nebraska made after Osborne, UNC made after Dean Smith, South Carolina after Ray Tanner, etc... The only way head coaches in waiting actually work are when the assistant is more responsible for the success of the program than the head coach like Gary Patterson at TCU or Chris Petersen at Boise State. That definitely doesn't apply in this situation.

I'm thinking Smart goes to SCe in 2 years & Lane moves back west for a PAC12 opening...

Smart before Kiffin but neither are likely. I think Smart will need HC experience before being promoted.

If there is a God...Kiffin will be next

Not even Alabama fans want Dabo Swinney as Head Coach, FYI.

Please God, make Lane Kiffin the head coach at Alabama.

Kiffin is gone after this year... He could've been gone after his first year but he was finally smart and learned from past mistakes... Kirby needs experience at a smaller school before taking on a job like bama... If not he'll be muschamp 2.0...

Why does everyone say Dabo is a bad coach? He's won his conference, a BCS bowl and has won 10+ games for 4 years in a row.

Cause the ACC sucks? Even Muschamp could do the same there.

The main problem with choosing the successor for Saban is that all of the coaches who I believe could step in and maintain Bama's success are getting up there in age. Dantonio and Briles are 59 years old and Gary Patterson is 55 years old. Gus, Urban, and Harbaugh won't come for obvious reasons. Who's the great young coach in CFB right now who would be available and a slam dunk hire for any power 5 program? There isn't one. All of the great ones are already established at other premier programs or old. So hopefully Saban stays around until the coaching pool improves.
