LSU has great talent on D and we weren't horrible. We made him look average.

And now it looks like Auburn has a lot of talent on that side now. He's gonna ride this shite until he gets a HC position from riding on the coattail of a successful HC.

Much like Smart and Muschamp. (Who will both crash and burn IMO) Hell, one already crashed and is still burning.

He's played Gus for a fool as we all know. Genius, simply genius.

Outside of a miraculous debut season I'm not sure how much success gus has really had as HC.

Letting Richt go was an extremely nuts decision. His best players were constantly injured. He should have had 2016 with Chubb.

I was surprised by the timing as well...but that has literally nothing to do with whether kirby will be successful here or "crash and burn".

It's far more likely he succeeds than fails.

I have no idea how Gus is going to fare long term, but he does have 2 conference titles in 4 years of being a HC.

Sort of have to disagree there. Look a little closer at that one. Who is leaving, who is coming back. The impact of ones coming in.

Memphis looked worse than a D2 school. Paxton went to the sidelines and sat way over by himself. Didn't talk to coaches, had no headset. They lost a lot when their HC left, obviously. And Paxton's stock went way down. Way down. He's not going to do much in the interview sessions either with the way he comes off when he talks.

Sure, he'll still go high, but he could have really done something by simply showing up yesterday. He didn't. A lot of it was coaching and possibly preparation because he was way off most of the time.

I couldn't care less what he did at arkansas state.

His time as a HC in the SEC has been:

1- fairy tale season with an SEC title
2- 8-5 season, 4th in division, outback bowl
3- 7-6 season, dead last in division, birmingham bowl

So again, I wouldn't necessarily say he's been a huge success.

What's your definition of "succeeds"?

Pretty weird to discard someone's first season in the Sun Belt, and write off a national championship game appearance in the following year.

I won't argue it's now tarnished to some extent, but it's at minimum a very solid start to an HC career, even considering the present trending.

to me, the best coach under Saban (and then Miles) was Bo Pelini.

IMO, he will coach at a high level again. He deserves it.

my comment was in response to this quote

Steele is in teh SEC, gus in the sec, it's logical based on the quote I responded to that the poster was talking about successful SEC head coaches. Arkansas state era has absolutely nothign to do with this.

who wrote it off? It happened, it's not like I can close my eyes and it doesn't exist anymore. IF you're saying that I didn't specifically mention that in the post then sorry. But everythign I wrote is factual. He has clearly trended downward, and in a pretty serious manner at that.

In the SEC gus is 27-13 with 1 SEC title. Nobody is saying that sucks, it just looks to me almost like a 5 times better version of chiz. Come in white hot your first year then spiral down from there.

I don't guess I can give a hard and fast answer to that. If the only 2 options are either succeed or crash and burn (as stated in the OP) I'd certainly say succeed is more likely.

I think most fans have the following reasonable expectations:

-year 1, just look competitive EVERY game, whoop the teams we should (which we haven't lately) and at least be in a fight for 60 minutes against teams that are better than us (haven't done that a ton lately either)
-division title every 3/4 years (for reference, richt averaged winning the division every 3 years)
-SEC title every 5/6 years (reference, richt averaged winning the SEC every 7 years)
-make the playoffs at some point

IT's just really hard to specifically say if kirby doesn't win X% of games or make the playoffs by year Y then he's failed.

Not until he learns to control his outbursts. It is one thing to be like Muschamp and lose it on the sidelines during a game but Bo appears prone to go nuts anywhere, anytime.

No high level AD is going to take a chance on dealing with that kind of mess.

He's already done that and just about destroyed the Baylor program in the process.

Pelini never coached under Saban. He was Co-defensive coordinator at Oklahoma in 2004, Saban's last in BR. Muschamp was Saban's last DC for the Tigers.
