Because UAB dropped football and UK needed a replacement game on short notice, on a specific date.
USM had an open date that matched up and, thus, a lot of bargaining power.
I remember looking at some OOC schedules back when the UAB announcement was made and thinking that it would be very, very tough to get a team to fill the spot. UK didn't have much of a choice other than agreeing to a 1-1 series.

SEC schools are not suppose to play AT schools like USM. This is just as bad as Missouri playing AT Arkansas State.

I hate them with the fire of 1000 suns. Their stadium is called "The Rock" because it looks like that big hard turd you crap out after you eat really unhealthy for a week
