I will admit, as a A&M fan I don't give a crap about third and Chavis. I have seen so many first down touchdown big plays given up the last decade that giving up a third-and-long feels like a luxury.

With that said, LSU fans have made it clear that we should be worried about 3rd and Chavis. And I think I figured out why- they got the ultimate dose on his way out!

I mean, Les is easily on the backend of his LSU coaching career. Third down if you will. And on this third down John gave up a huge play to an opponent that Les had shut out the first two downs of his career.

No matter if we make something out of that or not, the fact is that on the way out the door Chavis lived up to his reputation at a macro level.

I think that is why LSU fans are so insistent that we A&M fans fear the third and Chavis, rather than laugh that our shitty coach got at least another shitty year to sink our program even further (in their opinion).

I never claimed otherwise.

The difference is Tenn fans on here keep saying we got a good hire, while LSU fans keep saying we got 3rd and Chavis.

Unless LSU fans are melting, which I have been assured is not the case, they must have a reason to warn us extra about 3rd and Chavis.

Don't take our word for it....it's just sour grapes.

Chavis is the man and when we have leads, he doesn't lose games.

Always aggressive

You got the best

You have to take the good with the bad. For the most part we loved having Chavis but 3rd and Chavis is a reality that cannot be denied.

With Aggies abundance of talent on D I fully expect you to be in the playoff next year.

Well Aggy, UT fans tried to warn us 6 years ago. He'll be better than what you have but you don't have the depth to run his defense right now. Hope y'all have room for some growing pains.

Chavis is a good hire. Anyone who says otherwise is stupid.

However, Chavis is not head and shoulders above every other DC like some Ags seem to believe. Anyone who says otherwise is stupid.

Has it sunk in already that he won't be the savior that you wanted? At least you recognize it earlier than your fellow blowhards. BTW, it is not just LSU fans but Tenn. fans say the same thing.

It is ok to be in denial Aggies..

I am not saying he is a bad coach, but it was very bush leagued for him to talk to swagcopter the day of our bowl game.

I for one will not miss him and it was time for him to go, he did not like to hit the trail and recruit for us and just got lazy.

The real proof in the pudding was in big games like against Bama for instance the past few years, the Chavis defense disappeared, therefore 3rd and Chavis.

Chavis got a lot of praise during his time at LSU, but he had some major talent to back his shortcomings up.

We should have won a National Championship the past several years ago. QB issues and Chavis bend don't break defense are the reason that we didn't.

Chavis may perk up your defense for a year or two, but sooner or later, he will revert back to being his old lazy self.

Everybody keeps saying that, but the stats say the he fields teams that give up 3rd down conversions at a rate far, far less than the national average.

I can get that, when you are closer in time to an event the details (good and bad) are clearer to you, while in time you only remember the good (aka a nostalgia effect).

With that said, those Tenn fans who just lost Chavis were on a precipice of losing everything. In hindsight it is obvious that their grasp of the situation was less than optimal or they would have taken the moves to prevent their decline.

Plus you have to take into consideration their audience- LSU fans obviously really care about the defense as a culture. They knew that their Chavis criticism would be considered. Meanwhile LSU fans keep throwing that particular piece of mud against a teflon wall and it won't stick. Criticism of a side of the ball we haven't seen executed at a high level in decades simply isn't going to hit home to Aggies. If it really were sour grapes the posters would lean on something more relevant to the audience like saying he hates the smell of sheep pussy.

No no, LSU fans have a real reason- a reason Tenn fans never had- to be so insistent about warning us about the existence of the curse that is 3rd and Chavis. In a way I am sad I will never get to understand what they are talking about, because if A&M's defense ever gets so good I get pissed we are blowing random third downs I will remind myself of how bad it was before John came.

Tenn fans say we have a shitty coach that is sinking our program? What room do they have to talk? Winning in recruiting and not on the field is basically the Butch Formula (tm).

Keep believing in those stats !

Maybe they will keep you warm while you are at home watching the National Championship game on TV with Chavis.

I know it may be hard for you to believe, but I know many Tiger Alums like myself that was very happy to see Chavis go. (and he is not the only dead weight on the LSU staff)

For us that believe that, we feel that he has wasted chances with huge defensive talent while at LSU with nothing to show for it but nice stats.
