Had the chance to meet and speak with him a number of times. He was a fine gentleman. His Heisman Trophy was the first one I ever saw in person and remember just staring at it.

He had a soft spot for you Bammers too.

Crow said, "I tell everybody that A&M is my true love and that I want us to win everything that we do, but Alabama is a close second because of the ties I had with Coach Bryant, and with my son playing over there.

If he had not switched commitment from LSU to Texas A&M, imagine that LSU 1957 backfield of Jimmy Taylor, Billy Cannon and John David Crow.

Some of my earliest recollections of football go back to about 1960. He is one of the players I recall. Always liked him.
Oddly enough, my earliest recollection of football was Jake Gibbs rolling left and scoring the winning touchdown v. Rice in the 1961 Sugar Bowl, following the 1960 season.

Jim Hart throwing bombs to Mel Gray was a lethal combo...and combined with Terry Metcalf's running, the Cards had an awesome offense when they were back in St. Louis...

Might I suggest that you rethink your posting habits when you stoop so low as to troll an RIP thread? Thanks.
Really? I didn't see that as a troll. You people are overly-sensitive.

I knew that much. Reading his bio, I thought he was a two sport guy for a split second.
Interesting fellow. Sounds like a top tier kind of guy. RIP
