Inadvertently posted this in Tiger Rant so excuse repeat post. Does anybody think Jim McElwain gets any consideration for any major conference job openings this year or does he need a couple more years of continued success at CSU? With his success as OC at BAMA and relative success in his short stint in Fort Collins that is one name I would expect to pop up in the next few years if not his year.

His next step is a weak power 5 team I think. Maybe he takes over at Kansas?

I think he really likes it out there at CSU. Money talks but I'm not sure he would be offered enough at this poin for him to leave a place where he is very comfortable.

First thought is: not unless he's stupid. But that conference is so bad now that 7-6, 8-4 every now and then, seems doable there.

Jesus, I hope not. I really like McElwain and Kansas is one of the absolute worst P5 programs.

He is from Montana, and I really think he likes the area, so I'm not sure how eager he is to leave...but you can buy nice property if you're making 2,000,000 a year.

Outside of UA, he's always been a West Coast guy. At it seemed that way to me. He'll be a quality head coach for someone one day. His only drawback would be recruiting due to most of his ties being out West.

He was the OC at Fresno State before coming to Bama so I imagine he has at least some connections in CA. I think he may have been a QB coach for the Raiders, too.

I've heard that a different former bama coach is being considered for the Kansas job.

Shula would be a moron to take that job, unless he just really wants to be a HC again.

Anything would be better than what Kansas had for a coach. And besides, it would be an opportunity to build from the ground up and solidify himself. People said Vandy was a dead end job too, but look what it got Franklin.

Where is Mr. 'I love the smell of tailgating in the morning' coaching right now?

Yes, but the best defensive lineman are 300+ lbs. Southern boys who look hungry. Typically, that is.

Little known story but it's been rumored that when Kansas opened up in 2001, Fran actually reached out to them and was offered the job (which he accepted). Kansas backed out when Fran asked for a delay to see if he would get an offer from Notre Dame.

McElwain will be a very successful HC if he plays his cards right. I've always loved the offense that he runs. He's legit.
