The one year suspension is the norm for a first time offender(if he was a first timer)? Just seems a bit much to me. If true seems a lot of players would be getting that suspension. Do you get a warning for the first, second? Is this ruling brought down by the NCAA or the school itself? I am just a bit confused by the length of this suspension.
The 1 year is handed down by the NCAA for taking a number of different PEDs; Grier took Ligandro which was in an over-the-counter supplement....it's an automatic 1 year suspension. No warnings. Every college athlete is told NOT TO TAKE ANYTHING UNLESS THE MEDICAL STAFF OKs IT!!!!!! Grier didn't.
What is Ligandro

A kid should not be suspended from taking something that can be purchased from GNC. If the public can get it legally then it should be ok for the players.

I agree. But I highly doubt that the overused "I didn't know what was in it" is applicable in this case. His interview sounded like he was lying to me.

This is the one thing that we know he didn't take

McElwain is a fraud, he knew, if it were up to him Grier would be playing McElwain is pissed that his QB is out, he is mad not that his QB did steroids, but because the rules say he has to be suspended. McElwain knew, and played him anyway. McElwain is just as guilty here and should get heat as well. If he had it his way he would say "steroids schmeroids" and play Grier. He is a cheater as well. Shame that the coach has no accountability here.
McElwain also told me to tell you to frick off biotch!

Sounds good......but can you tell us all what he took from GNC? Because no one has officially come out and said what product he took. If it's something for flu, name it.....if it's something bad, name it. But keeping it in the dark tells many people they don't want the truth to come out. And if you lie, people can dig and poke holes into the lie to prove it was a lie. So I guess best thing is to just not say anything.
In this case, I don't feel sorry for him at all. Choices come with consequences. Good or bad, you better think about the possibility before you try anything.

He knew what he was doing. This "I didn't know" crap is pure bullshite. He tried to get away with it b/c it was "over the counter" but he certainly knew. How else do you go from 172 lbs to 215 lbs in such a short period of time? And don't say it was donuts!

I have no idea what the truth is, what he took, where he got it, etc. I agree a rule is a rule. I just think if they can get suspended from taking something over the counter that the general public can get, then the rule should be changed. The same should be said for cold medicines, etc that also are forbidden because they show the same results as another kind of PED. In my opinion that's the lazy way out, just ban everything so there is no confusion, etc. Nope, you as an organization need to find better ways of testing to distinguish the difference or some other way of finding out the truth.

He went from 187 lb when he got on campus to 203 this year.
But continue with the false and deluded narrative that is ever so fitting for the posters on tRant.

How does a training staff not notice the differences in weight gain? Even if McElwain didn't know is irrelevant, some retard trainer surely knew.
Florida won't release details because it violates Grier's privacy. I'm sure the people who fund UF football scholarships don't give two shakes about his privacy.

He should've asked the trainers if what he was taking was okay.
It was an over the counter powder supplement- like a protein shake, that had an ingredient in it that was added to the banned substance list after last season.
He screwed up and was suspended. The penalty is far too harsh and should be handled on a case by case basis. People who are taking hardcore steroids and sticking needles in their asses in a nasty bathroom should not have the same penalty as a 200 lb quarterback trying to drink a protein shake. The suspension is ridiculous and I hope and expect it is reduced to just through this season and he will be good to go at the start of next year.

This is only repeated on the rant. The report comes from the AJC. That's why it keeps getting brought up.
That being said, it is drilled into every student athlete not to take anything, even cold medicines, without Team trainer clearance. I'm sad the kid is getting hit so hard......but claiming ignorance just doesn't work.

HOW CAN YOU POSSIBLY KNOW THAT? If neither UF nor Grier will disclose what he ingested, how do you know?
