My question is how can Johnson be so great if he couldn't beat out Nick Marshall.

Auburn was an 8-5 team last year. It isn't like Nick Marshall was an All American carrying his O.

Because you don't replace a QB who led you to a natty title appearance

Except Kheil Frazier was a running QB that was afraid to run.

This is Gus's type of QB. His high school offense was high scoring and throwing for lots of yards. That also opened lanes for QB to run for first downs. RB's will have success with team worried about the pass defense.

His offense will now be Guss's true offense. Auburn will be hell on steroids offensively.

He's going to be a great passer, but I'm still calling bullshite on his running abilities. I've seen 700, 800, and some fools even think a 1000 yards is likely. He'll likely run for around 300 or less.

My real question is, how much will it change if the defense doesn't have to worry about the QB run as much? Read option won't be nearly as effective either. Will it make the offense easier to handle for defenses?

He torched Auburn HS his senior year on the ground and in the air. For those questioning his running ability, that is a good video to watch.

Sean "The Next Drew Brees" White
In Gus Malzahn's own words the most accurate QB he's ever worked with.

Aaron Murray ran for 930 yards as a junior in high school (the bulk of his rushing). In 36 games he totaled 1190 rush yards and 14 TDs. Winston ran for 850 yards and 11 TDs in 16 games in high school. Jamarcus Russell ran for 400 yards and 5 TDs as a senior in high school.

Jeremy Johnson played in 39 games as a high school player and had 700 yards and 9 TDs as a senior (the bulk of his running total), 100 in 2 other full years of starting.

He has also showed very little "want to" run in the games he has played at Auburn. Look, I'm not saying he can't rush for more than 300, but don't go expecting he's just going to run a lot.

It's seemed obvious to me that while he's been in the game (at AU), Gus has probably told him not to run. The times I've seen him run he's shown he's a threat.

But you could be right and it may not have been Gus telling him to stay in the pocket. Maybe he just doesn't want to run.

If I HAD to bet on it though I'd set over/under at 700 IMO.

Much like Bama passing records at Auburn prior to Malzahn were not that spectacular. Both teams are historically pound it down your throat type teams.
