Looking back at the mid to late 90's and early 2000's why did the JP game of the week always feature a substandard SEC East team more often than not? I remember Vanderbilt, Kentucky and South Carolina consistently making more appearances than any other teams. I don't recall LSU, Alabama and Florida for some reason playing the 11:00 JP games. Tennessee vs Kentucky would always be a JP game. Any rhyme or reason behind their selections back in the day?

Think FS South and that channel 69 ACC coverage. That was JP

Their "game of the week" was really "game of the week that wasn't already taken by ESPN or Verne and Gary"

There were many Bama games on Jefferson Pilot. Seems like it was usually against Ole Miss or a bottom east team.

Because I belive JP sports had the last pick of the sec games behind CBS, ESPN, and ESPN 2.. so they always got stuck with the Vandy, Kentucky, Miss. St., and South Carolina games every week.

I remember them smashing Kentucky on JP.

I miss those days. There was something endearing about that grainy as shite picture and three guys named Dave.

Duh. They had like 4th or 5th choice. Sure Bama showed up there. Everyone did. But yeah Vandy was on there a lot because they were often involved in the 4th or 5th best choice in a SEC game.

In football? Yeah...we had a lot of noon kickoffs then. That's changed thankfully. My liver was not a fan of drinking every Saturday starting at 8am.

Not just grainy, but usually way too bright as well.

The Three Daves did many an Alabama-Vandy, Alabama-State game. There was nothing worse than getting the 11 AM kick in September. The entire student section would smell of whiskey sweat and throw up.

Bama vs. LSU showed up a couple times on the JP game. The only games that never showed up on there were UT v. FLA, UT v. Bama (except 2007), Bama v. Auburn, FLA v. UGA, and UGA v. Auburn

Vandy v. Bama and Arkansas v. Bama were a constant.

I miss them. There was nothing like having two guys named Dave in the booth and the sideline guy named Dave.

I love watching old games on youtube that were JP games.

The terrible contests, terrible video quality, terrible graphics, terrible "big battle next weekend in Starkville as Kentucky rolls in to town for a giant SEC showdown".

I think before the 3 Dave's Tom Hammond and others were on the older JP broadcasts.

Every SEC team was contractional-obligated to play at lease one JPS game every two seasons. LSU played Miss. State on there several times, definitely our most common opponent. We hosted Florida once in the downpour an had BAMA multiple times....1999 the most recent where Booty got tackled on the goal-line when time expired. Come the think, I think we lost to UGA, 28-27, in 1999 on JP, also.
