Jay Jacobs or Joe Alleva?

If you had to have one of these guys as your AD, who would you pick?
I vote for Jacobs for the Bruce Pearl hire and keeping Cam eligible. Outside of that, I think he's a doofus and if he got fired today I wouldn't shed a tear.
All of that being said, he doesn't come across as much of a deer in headlights as Alleva does. He seems to lack self-awareness and understanding of what it takes to run a top tier AD.
Neither one of them should wield as much power as they do

With what's going on right now Alleva is either brilliant or the most incompetent AD in America. We won't know which for at least a week or so.

Ask me Monday. If Alleva pulls off what we think he may pull off, he's the GOAT. If not, he's in hot water. The risk he took the past two weeks.

Yeah, Alleva's work at Duke is pretty much unmatched. Incredible track record. And Jacobs only runs the most under achieving athletic department in the conference.

You guys do realize there is a whole lot more involved in being an athletic director than hiring coaches right?

How much power does Jacobs actually have? I don't really pay attention to the Auburn athletic department, but I've seen and heard many Auburn fans say he's basically just a yes man for the PTTB pulling his strings. Is that accurate?

Facilities, funding, compliance, ect. All of those things revolve around the coaches.
Take SMU with Larry Brown. They knew when they hired him he was dirty. But they also knew he would win. It was a calculated risk that got them to the NCAA tourney last year but will have them banned this year. But either way people are talking about SMU and money for facilities, salaries, ect is now pouring in.

Definitely. And I'm leaning towards most incompetent AD in America.

OK by your logic Alleva hired Johnny Jones who hired David Patrick who recruited and was related to Ben Simmons who is getting more pub for the LSU basketball team in the month of November than probably ever so i would say that is a win towards Alleva, and if he gets this hire right for football then what is the problem with Alleva?

That's fair. But going back to last year and his inability to retain Chavis, I got the sense LSU fans were fed up with Alleva?

The Chavis thing goes back to Alleva drawing a line in the sand on Les by basically giving him two years to figure it out (the Les clause in the assistants contract). Chavis wanted and felt he deserved more stability. The fans not liking Alleva for that are the same ones that want Les gone they just can't see that they are actually one in the same. Everything that is happening to get rid of Les started at the Les clause.

This! And that's why I was OK with third-and-Chavis leaving. We knew there was a real good chance Miles would screw up the DC hire, and if that happened, he would be gone soon.
