There shouldn't be individual awards, but if we're going to have individual awards, they shouldn't be given based on team performance.

Not really.... YAC ... look it up for bamas WR's.

I watched all of those games, and most of them were not behind the line of scrimmage.

He gets a lot of negativity on here for an undefeated true freshman with 3500 yards and 33 TDs.

Plus about 20 fumbles and almost as many ints as TD passes

Been impressed with his composure all season. Doesn't get rattled and doesn't appear to get too hyped either.

Pretty sure he has 22 TD passes and 9 ints.

....and they gained about 15+ yards every time

We have different definitions on "picking apart defenses"

He's an 18 yr old newbie QB. He only had a few months learn the offense, adjust to the coaching staff/fellow players and get acclimated to Saban's process in Tuscaloosa.

Critic everything about his performance this season, but while you do so please critic AU's first year QBs and let us know how they performed.

How many has he lost?

Less than half of his number of TD passes is "almost as many?" Brilliant.

There are better players in the SEC, but Hurts is tough as nails and did something I never expected a freshman QB to be able to pull off in this conference. Congrats to him.

The good out weighs the bad and he's leading a team that's 13-0 and in position to battle for another championship.

Greg Fing McElroy Won A NC there.

And he was just about as bad as Jordon Jefferson.

Anyone remember the Preseason game where he ran like 13yards past the line of scrimmage and then threw the ball?

Why are you so defensive? It is kind of silly to award him the SEC offensive player of the year. But, then again, no one else showed out.

He was awesome as a true freshman. He will only get better. My whole point is that the yardage and TD stats are deceiving. Some of you make it out like he carves up defenses on a weekly basis.

Silly because no other SEC player sacked up and out performed a first year, TF QB?

How are TD stats deceiving?
If that's true then every QBs TD stats are deceiving.

...That more often than not threw the ball to the flats or behind the line of scrimmage

so, yeah.

Averaged around 80 which in those games meant he had 200-225 yards total. Not exactly offensive player of the year numbers for a QB.
