We're talking about the worst player on LSU's team, not the worst player in the conference.
Try and keep up.

Admittedly, your rushing defense did improve once Welter was replaced by Beckwith.
I also thought Beckwith replaced Welter in the second half of the Mississippi State game?

Last year Johnathan Mincy won the Holland Award by the largest margin since its inception. This year i will go with Gimel President. Got a feeling i will cringe every time he steps on the field

Not sure who this year, past few years I would have said Justin Coleman. Wasn't quite as bad last year.

I know you want to blame shitty defensive production on him instead of Chief's mental lapses, but Welter was a solid contributor for the Tigers.
In 2013, Welter had 80 total tackles, 4.0 TFL, and 2.0 sacks in 13 games, which are pretty solid numbers for an SEC linebacker.
Go look at the numbers for the guy in 2012 to understand how shitty those numbers are. Also, he had like 25 solo tackles at mlb.
DJ had 25 solo tackles, 55 assited tackles, 80 total tackles, yet only 4 TFL netting - 11 yards. In a scheme that is designed (by Chavis' own words on Moscona's (local radio) show) to make your mlb the focus of the scheme, that just isn't enough production. Also number of tackles doesn't tell you anything. If I told you that a guy got 15 tackles, and they all came after a gain of 10 or more yards, would you be fired up by that? Where tackles are made is as important as making the tackle.
By way of example, Kevin Minter had 55 solo 75 assisting 130 (!) total tackles and capped that astounding production with 15.0 TFL netting - 52 yards. Over twice as many solo tackles. In a scheme that demands that, it is huge! When you remove that ability from the middle of Chavis' scheme, you get run on a lot. That's why it is an issue.

Because he was, statistically-speaking, the second worst quarterback in the Conference.
I am trying to show you just how bad he was by comparing him to other QBs in the SEC. Hell, he was the worst QB on LSU's roster too, so there you go on that front as well.

Per Sports Illustrated, Kevin Minter was a first-team all-American in 2012.
Again, I'm not saying Welter was even above average. I'm merely stating that he was not as bad as y'all want him made out to be, certainly not the worst player on the LSU squad in 2014.

quote:Thanks for filling me in on a player that I watched struggle in every game he played for two years. No, he actually wasn't a solid contributor. He was slow as shite laterally, constantly got hung up on blockers, and was flat out awful in general.
Welter was a solid contributor for the Tigers
quote:80 total tackles? Yea, he had 25 solo tackles and 55 assisted tackles. I get that you're completely clueless about this but 25 solo tackles, 4 TFL, and 2 sacks is terrible for a starting middle linebacker in the SEC. He played in 26 games in his junior and senior years with 20+ starts and he had 32 fricking solo tackles over that span. He was awful and you have no clue what you're talking about

The worst player on LSU's 2014 team was Anthony Jennings, bar none.

I'm not sure why you would argue with people about who the worst player on their favorite team was. I'd take your word for it if you picked some slap dick offensive lineman for Ole Miss. Trust us, Welter made the top yardage unit in the conference last year look like garbage for a fourth of a season. They were so much better after him that they recovered to lead the league. Jennings might have been poor, but Welter turned a strength into a weakness. Just trust us.
By the way, go back before Minter, back all the way to 2009. Everyone's production in the middle was much greater than Welter's. MLB is the centerpiece of a Chavis scheme, putting your worst defender their is stupid.

Well, you weren't watching Kyler Kerbyson closely enough. I've heard that he is supposed to be vastly improved this season...how could he not be?

Justin Bell
I'll be so happy when that fat sack of shite runs out of eligibility after this season... He had RS frosh D linemen eating his lunch every single snap of our Spring game... Seriously... Every. Single. Snap.

DJ Welter's 25 solo tackles from the LB spot would have led the 2011 Tiger LBs in solo tackles.

Actually last year Reese Dismukes nut sack won the award.

I dont think you understand the difference in 55 and 25 solo tackles by a MLB, that's GIGANTIC. Sheppard had 46 back in 2010.

We didn't have a MLB start every game that year, so cognrats?

Yeah, because two people split time there. Guess how many solo tackles they had together? 44. Again, I actually watch the games so I'm at a distinct advantage in this argument. Just trust me.
