At least according to one former SEC QB LINK

I thought we should start off the long offseason with a lively debate, and I think this one is worth having. I think the SEC East is going to be embroiled in this debate for the next 3 years.

Bentley or Eason?

Eason will be the 1st pick in the draft, and Bentley will be coaching HS ball in 4 years. Who would you rather be? Serious question

Who had the better year?
I think its a toss up and hard to compare considering how Bentley didn't play half the year.

Who has the better offense?
Roper was absolute garbage at Florida and Chaney is mostly considered garbage to most of his previous programs. I'd say favoring Eason as he has better RB's to take some of the heat off. WR...I dont have the time to compare, but is prob abt the same.

Who has the better ceiling?

Now here is a debatable topic. I mean Bentley has great touch and seems like a great leader. Eason has all the intangibles of an NFL prospect from height to arm strength, but imo has some growing up to do.

I can't speak for Bentley, but as far as Eason goes its going to come down to developing Leadership, Touch on those short passes, and more accurate deep balls. Also he has to read the defense quicker and make better decisions. Also our WR not dropping1/2 the shite thrown to them and our Oline not being a hot dumpster fire wouldn't hurt.

I think the dust will settle at the end of this year, as opposed to comparing stats from last. I think they are both great QB's though and should be fun to watch.

This one isn't debateable. Eason is 6'6" with a Howitzer for a right arm. His ceiling is an All-Pro QB. Whether he ever develops and reaches that ceiling is another matter.

I really like Bentley and think he could very well end up being better, but he doesn't have nearly the long-term potential.

Not sure how he came to the conclusion that "it isn't close." Both are good QBs with a lot of potential and good skill players around them.

I think Bentley was a better QB last season, but Eason has the higher ceiling. Bentley has the technique, footwork, and mechanics down pretty well; Eason still has to develop that aspect. That's going to be the biggest task for Cheney as a QB coach.

Good post. Really cannot argue with you.

Bentley had a shitty OLine which we hope is going to be corrected now that Eric is back ... and he had plenty of dropped balls too. I do like our WRs and TEs that we have now - I'd put them up pretty much against anyone's.

RBs ... no program has better RBs than Georgia's this coming season IMHO. SC's will be very acceptable, fairly deep and talented albeit a bit utilitarian.

Now, I've had several UGA friends of mine insist that UGA has another QB who will surpass Eason this season ... can't remember his name but their general consensus seems to be the kid is a stone cold QB stud.

Fromm is a stud but isn't going to pass Eason.

Fromm seems like a good QB but he has yet to step on the field as a college athlete. Too many people expected Eason to step on the field and look like Peyton Manning in his prime... the expectations weren't realistic. He had some bad games that one would expect from a freshman, but he also made some great, clutch plays when we needed them. Fromm will get some PT, but that;s because we only have 2 scholarship QBs.

I think Bentley had the better year last year. He seemed more composed and consistent. I wonder how he will fare this year now that he is firmly entrenched as "the guy". I think those expectations were placed on Eason early in the offseason last year and he carried that weight with him for much of the season.

My issue with McElroy's comments came at the end of that article where he says you have to put SC near the top of the East. I think they are on the upswing, but not near the top.

I keep hearing UGA fans go on and on about Eason's height advantage, but Bentley is 6'4" himself. It's not like he's a midget...

Being a South Carolina homer I'm going with Bentley.

I think most people think Bentley surpasses Eason in:

1) Touch
2) Accuracy
3) Composure/Staying Calm/Making good decisions
4) Reading Defenses
5) Mobility (Jake is pretty mobile, can scramble some to pick up first downs, and extend plays. Sad thing is he just doesn't look like he will ever be a guy you can count on in the running game like Nick Fitzgerald or Jalen Hurts.)

Now Eason can improve on all those. Think Accuracy is the hardest besides mobility. These kids improve some, but in a way what you see as a freshman is the same as what you see when they retire from the NFL 15 or so years later as far as that goes.

The light could have come on for Eason and he looks as natural as Bentley does at 3) and 4), but I think he always lags him in the other categories.

As for Eason:

1) He's taller.
2) He has a stronger arm.

Really he reminds me of Ryan Mallett. Obviously you want a guy who can make all the throws, but the situations that degree of arm strength make that big a difference seem less common to me than being able to pick up a first down on a busted play.

Just my two cents, Georgia fans can disagree.

In 3 years, count the number of wins for each QB. Let that determine who is "better"

JMO, but I think it's more about the defense knowing you can make that throw than how often you actually make it. It stretches the defense automatically.

Bentley is very polished for a young player, as you would expect with a coach's kid.
