In an age where 100 espn personalities just got canned, the dude knows how to play the crowd. He plays viewers like a fiddle a la skip bayless, and he's protected his job by being interesting.
Or he might actually be a retarded person, I'm not totally sure

The unemployed Bama fans keep him employed.

He's very accommodating to the sidewalk fans of the SEC. Unfortunately they are vast in numbers and usually desperate to let national audiences know that they haven't quite fully grasped mental capabilities that separate humans from apes and other animals.

Would the SEC network not be affected by layoffs, separate branch of ESPN?

They both do. It's the same reason why Jerry Springer is worth $50m and Clay Travis is successful. They take (or facilitate) very divisive stances. Some people view it to hate it, some people view it to love it, some people view it to feel better about themselves. But at the end of the day, these people get paid to generate viewers, regardless of why they are viewing it.

The South would secede again if Pawl was let go.

ESPNU did get uprooted from the Charlotte studio (Where SECN is based) and is being moved back to the main Bristol campus.

Nobody from the SECN was affected by the layoffs according to Finebaum.
I wonder how many desk reporters land on their feet with the ACCN ?

SEC Network is what ESPN used to be. They just show games and highlight shows with a few original broadcasting sprinkled in. They understand their viewership doesn't want political stances and who is right and who is wrong. They just want to see sports.

I don't even go to ESPN anymore for sports news, I only watch live events.
For baseball coverage I tune to MLB network, Harold Reynolds is sitting pretty right about now.

This was Finebaum earlier in the wk, typical of what his show is too often about: one of his favorite callers called in, long story short version, admitted he has a foot fetish, Laura was sitting there with Finebaum. And the story/show went down hill from there. Finebaum let him go on & on & on bout his fetish. There are many reasons why the ESPN affiliate here in B.R. dropped his radio show mid way first season & this is just the perfect example of what he has turned the SECN into. Besides pimping saban every chance he gets.

MLB Tonight not MLB Network is just great television. It's NFL Redzone light with commentary and demonstrations that teaches a lot about the game. I thought I knew baseball until I started watching that regularly.
