Not that I had opportunity to follow Bama baseball but one year seems harsh.

Based on what?

I know very little about the guy, but what I've read recently is polar opposite of what you posted.

True. But evidently the guy was a complete horse's rear end to the team.

Sounds harsh on the surface but from the rumors swirling, the UA Administration nipped it in the bud.

big time character guy who puts the student athlete first. also has a great family and did a great job at la tech. he just needed some time to install his system.

Im sure the coaches will be chomping at the bit to come to Bama now.

Basically, you get one year, and if little Billy and Johnny on the team who are proven losers dont like you, you are fired.

Only thing I heard about was he required haircuts and no beards. Of course I'm 40 so that seems perfectly acceptable to me but I'm not a HC for a major college either.

Like...Saban? How was his first year at Bama? Way to let parents run your program.

To the team, to former players, to supporters/donors, to in-state HS coaches.

Or his attempt to violate NCAA rules even after being told not to.

In fairness, whatever your team was "used to," the exact opposite approach is prolly the right approach. Seems like the snowflakes couldnt handle it

Jay Johnson must have told him he's willing to come.

Byrne believes Bama should be competing in championships in every sport. He had to see an opportunity here that may not have presented itself in the future. I really don't think you fire someone this quick to hire an assistant coach from your own conference - you can do that anytime.

Was a bad hire to begin with... all of his success at Campbell and Louisiana Tech was because he would bring in a shite ton of JUCO players.

That wouldn't work in a conference as tough as the SEC.

Damn, that was quick. I wonder what Louisiana coach they hire next?
