It's no debate. We need an 8 team playoff.

You'd still have your top four best teams, but the next four teams would be the one loss powerhouses.

I can guarantee that teams like UGA that have lost games they shouldn't have recently would have had a shot.

TCU would have probably wrecked the playoffs last year.

No, there is plenty to debate. 8 teams is way too watered down. As I;ve said all along we need to either move to super conferences and keep it 4 or move to 6 and give the SEC and the next best team a bye.

Haven't had a problem getting to the championship in recent years.

Agreed.

It should be difficult and a big accomplishment to make it into the playoffs. Not just basically being in the top 10

I mean, if you're not worthy of being there, would the weaker teams not be knocked out easily. I could go with a six team one, if only to avoid the TCU incident last year.

6 is enough. Top 2 get a bye. Too many opportunities for bullshite rematches with 8 and ruins the hype of the cfb regular season.

6. 3v6 5v4. Winner of 3v6 plays #1. Winner of 5v4 plays #2

Not if the P-5 conference champs are all guaranteed a spot.

Top 4 seeds host. No rematches from regular season conference games allowed in the 1st round.

So basically, if you don't win your conference, you'll have to travel and beat someone on the road before any potential rematch game could happen.

1. 5 super conferences.
2. Each super conference have a Championship game.
3. Each super conference champion plus an at large in a 6 team playoff.

End thread.

Win your conference and youre in, unless the entire conference completely bombs like a Mizzou equivalent.

4 is better than 2 but still the wrong # with 5 power conferences. All conf champs plus 1-3 at large would be perfect.

That or have six teams and #1&2 take a bye week the first week of playoffs. Either way the media doesn't need to be "controlling the table" with the playoffs. 6/8 team playoff would make sure every conference with good teams gets a fair shot.

Eight would be about right. All of the P5 winners plus 3 at-large teams. If an undefeated Georgia was beaten by undefeated Alabama by 3 in the SECCG, they'd probably get a spot. It would also allow the occasional Boise State or whoever to jump in. Fact is, if you're #9 and didn't even win your conference, it'd be hard to make the argument that you deserve a shot at the title.

You all say 8 would be watered down, but can you imagine the sellout crowds, and diversity in championship teams.

No. This is football. Weaker teams win every Saturday. I'm fine with 4. Wouldn't mind 6 at all. But 8 is too many.

IMO
