Yes, we went thru the whole turrible Petrino fallout, but we appear to finally be decent.

Aggies lead 4-3 since the series was renewed in 2007. Two ranked teams, prime-time, JerryWorld at night, SEC West champ implications...

I think this game is easily more important than OU/Texas will be this year. Hopefully that's the case moving forward.

Well Texas and OU is traditionally a huge game so it will get more attention. Its just the way the world works I'm afraid.

That having been said, Oklahoma has been beaten badly by both legit teams they faced this year. Texas lost to a California team coming off being beaten by San Diego State.

A&M has a win over UCLA. Arkansas has a road win over TCU. Both are undefeated this year going into the game. At this point in the year it certainly looks like the Hogs and Aggies are better teams.

Top 20 matchup is nothing to take lightly by the media. They will hype this game up.

OU/Texas will continue to be important in DFW just because... history and stuff. Texas State Fair is a fairly big deal. But I'm laughing about FS1 - that's great. As far as football relevance goes A&M/Arky is clearly more important this year, and hopefully in years to come. Woo Pig except this Saturday.

It will be the more popular matchup.

Disagree all you want but we have a night ESPN game verse FS1. Both Texas and OU are pretty much out of the playoff unless Texas wins out which is not happening.

Everyone who loves SEC football will be curious about this matchup. Not to mention the recent history of close games.

Big time ball game in these neck of the woods.

Game week trolling aside it is a big game. With the issues LSU is having this year (though they have some real talent if they can figure things out) and Ole Miss having already dropped a game to the Tide this is probably your "Anyone but Bama" bowl.

Alabama still probably beats us both this year but right now this looks to be the two teams in the West that have the best shot at stopping the Tide.

Oklahoma will stumble into the Texas game clinging on to the hope that they can salvage their season and reach 6 wins. aTm/Arky has playoff implications, pretty easy to see how it has become the premier rivalry in that area.

Nah. The year that happens is around 2030. At that point kids who only knew SEC football in Texas their entire life will be going off to college.

Last fall, 27% of incoming freshen at Arkansas were Texans (mostly DFW). That trend isn't stopping with explosive DFW growth. Fayetteville is actually closer to most of the best Dallas suburbs than Lubbock is. Student section and SRO should be hard sellouts this year.

To be fair, the only channels showing CFB nationally back then were ABC, CBS, TBS, ESPN, and eventually ESPN2. I think maybe USA did some CFB for a bit too but I can't remember the time frame. (NBC too of course but that was just Notre Dame)

Yes. The reason why it's not anymore is also why we aren't in the Big 12 anymore.

ABC/ESPN owns the Tier 1 rights to the Big 12, and Fox owns the Tier 2 rights. That means ABC/ESPN gets first dibs on the games, and Fox gets second. Tier 3 is given to the schools, which in Texas's case means the Longhorn Network (LHN) and they get to pick last. Now normally (pre LHN) something like the OU/Texas game is guaranteed a big game (Tier 1) so ESPN would pick it to broadcast on ABC and Fox would get stuck with something like Baylor-OSU only.

In 2016 the Longhorn Network needs some good (aka conference) games to be viable, but because it picks last the best it could hope for is the crappiest of OOC games left over after Fox picked. Because that isn't good enough, ESPN (who owns the LHN) passes over at least one Tier 1 game a year so Fox can grab it, and in return Fox allows a medium good game (instead of a crappy one) to fall to the LHN.

To recap, ESPN takes inventory the Big 12 sells to get the entire conference exposure (and money) and trades that maximum exposure to Fox so that the network of ONE team (the Longhorns) can get the games it needs to survive.

The real loser is anyone in the conference with the Longhorns, who have to tolerate that their primary conference media partner allows their big games to be marginalized on FS1 just so Texas can be a little richer. So this time around OU got fricked, but in previous years it has been programs like TCU, Tech and Ole Miss that got fricked.

This EXACT fricked up situation is why we are no longer in the Big 12. As much as people hate on Bama, CBS (who owns the SEC Tier 1 content) never fricked over Auburn just to make Bama a little bit richer.
