That a team has been too scared to show up to a game? I say yes.

This seems like a good strategy moving forward. If a team is undefeated going into the last SEC game, just cancel it.

Careful son.

Texas A&M fans said the same thing about Alabama in 1988 when the "Hurricane Bowl" was rescheduled, that Alabama was "scared".

Alabama promptly smashed them, 30-10.

Dont be so hard on LSU, I am sure they would have shown up if the SEC had told them to.

#LSU offered to play Sat/Sunday/Monday either in Baton Rouge or Gainesville. #LSU had secured hotels in BR + NOLA. Even offered #LSU plane.

I would be very embarrassed if I were a UF fan. Teams like Texas State and Prairie View a&m show up to get slaughtered by arkansas and A&M. Florida isn't even on their level.

They were right. Hurricane Gilbert hit 400 miles south of College Station. Alabama's starting QB David Smith was hurt and Bill Curry was afraid to play the backups.Game certainly could have been played.

Um, no. It was a mutual decision from both presidents.

quote:

Alabama interim President Roger Sayers and William Mobley, president of Texas A&M, agreed it was in the best interest of both schools to play the game at a later date.

UPI Archives

Jackie Sherrill did try to convince them to play the game, but the fear was not getting in, but rather the students would be stuck there.

So you are confirming that this is the first time a team refused to play because they were scared?

I can't remember for a team angling for cancellation.

This game should have been played in Baton Rouge on Saturday or Sunday. It should not have been canceled....but that is what Florida wanted.
