Is there a reason why premiere college football tickets are so expensive?

I went to the 2014 AFC Championship Game between New England and Denver. You had Tom Brady and Peyton Manning on the field, two of the greatest players to ever play the game, and I got a very decent seat in the nosebleeds for about $250. I was trying to buy tickets for my parents for the Alabama-Florida State game and the cheapest ones that were available (at the time) were $450 - and those were in the upper sections of the nosebleeds.
I realize this is a brand new stadium with lots of hype surrounding the game, but I mean come on. This is the first game of the season. I paid half the price to see Tom Brady and Peyton Manning play in the second biggest football game of the year.

Somebody has to pay those players.

Just get a second mortgage on your trailer like the rest of Bama fans. Or just stop being poorz.

You mean to tell me I can see a Bama game and contribute to a new Charger for Najee Harris?!

A Gator fan making snide comments about another fan or fan base attending an away game? Interesting...

I think college football has culturally peaked . And I think the insane amount of play stoppage and costs of tickets/parking/concessions/seat fees, combined with how great it is to sit on the couch and watch three games and eat chips and salsa and use your own bathroom will begin to effect attendance. Not to mention that the younger generations view this stuff completely differently, and watch sports differently. I think CFB is going to find it increasingly hard to compete for the entertainment dollar, except at those top 20 schools or so. I probably spend 2k a year on a pair of LSU tickets and there is just no way that my kids are ever going to find it worth it to spend that when they can tailgate all day leave and watch the games for free .

Because people will still pay for them

I think it's because there are more people that want to go to the game than there are tickets available
that's just a silly guess though

I paid a guy in Nashville $800 for 2 tickets and a parking pass for last year's Bama/UT game in Knoxville. Took my FIL who is a huge UT fan. Never told him what I paid for the tickets. We left in the 3rd quarter. The game was over at the end of the 1st. I just laugh about it now.

I do think some of the stadium expansion and renovation projects in the last decade or so may be like building monuments to the past. The at home experience is now so convenient and enjoyable that the next generations may not have the drive to put up with the hassles and costs associated with live attendance. Plus, the misguided attempts by stadium executives and schools to make Saturdays more like the NFL (piped in music, video board overload at every stoppage in play) as well as down times due to TV have robbed college games of a lot of their allure.

Somebody doesn't know what peaked means.

Just sold a pair of endzone tickets at the very top of the stadium for $485. Probably could have gotten more than that.

There still is a lot of corporate support for the tickets, hence the cost.
Until corporations, local companies decide it is really hurting the bottom line of XYZ, Inc. the prices will always be high..
Too bad for Joe Football Fan.

It's gotten out of hand. The only thing that will change it is if people like you no longer pay the rediculous price and stay home to watch it on a beautiful 55" high def TV with cheaper beer and no traffic.
