You be the judge

But Ole Miss has become a legitimate contender in the SEC West. The Rebels are recruiting at a level close to Alabama and LSU. Despite rising to No. 1 ranking in the country and appearing in the Orange Bowl in the last 15 months, and the Bulldogs’ recruiting class is more on par with South Carolina, Kentucky and Vanderbilt.

One loses to Alabama and is mediocre and one beats Alabama and is mediocre. Is that a gap?

Ehh not as big as OM fans think. Both teams have won 19 games the last two seasons.

Mullen is smarter than people give him credit for. He gets paid 4 mil a year and as long as he win 7-8 games a year with an occasional year like 2014 they will continue to pay him.

Both programs are in much better shape than they were ten years ago. The increased exposure from the SEC Network has led to better recruiting and the increased cash flow has led to better facilities and coaching staffs. Ole Miss and State are both solid top 25 programs right now.
Ole Miss seems to have an advantage going forward having won three of the last four Egg Bowls and bringing in higher rated prospects. Of course many message board experts will tell you it's only a matter of time before #TheNetwork is destroyed by the righteous and competent NCAA.
