Is Steve Spurrier at SCar one of the most underrated coaching jobs ever?

You don't just win 11 games year after year at a place like South Carolina. He's doing some of the best coaching of his career.

He's done an exceptional job. It's kind of unfortunate they haven't been able to snag an SEC title or a BCS game because they've been at that caliber.

Spurrier is one of my favorite SEC coaches of all time, in spite of being our arch-nemesis. Have to respect the heights he's taken the Gamecocks to.

Not sure how it's underrated since nobody is downplaying it. It's rated excellent, as it should be.

SC has had other big name coaches try and fail, where Spurrier has succeeded. I question what the program will become after he leaves though.

Is Spurrier not getting the credit he deserves?

Would love to have him back. Can't he coach both somehow?

I can't disagree with this.

Though I'm not sure how he lost to 10erC this year.

It might be the greatest coaching job of all time. It's pretty underrated.

I just think Spurrier is one of the GOAT's. He won an ACC at Duke...Then he made UF relevant at Football with all the Division Championships, SEC Championships and a Natty.

Now he's at USC, and did what nobody has done before (although we had a lot of success in the 80's and late 60's) but we haven't won this many games, in this time span before.

Holtz put the ship in the right directions, Spurrier got the motor going and when Saban comes, watch out.

Agreed. It's just not talked about much because of the BCS Championship run the conference has been on, it gets overshadowed.

Not to take anything away from OBS... but Ellis Johnson, Lorenzo Ward, and gargantuan SEC payouts should get some cred as well.

Not really.

Everyone talks about Saban and winning rings at two schools, but I'm almost more impressed with how Spurrier turned USCe into a consistent winner given that they have little to no history and were second fiddle in their own state.

Alabama had to be resurrected; USCe practically had to be sowed and built.

Give Spurrier credit, he probably could have had his pick of awesome jobs after getting canned by the Redskins and taking a year off, but he went to S. Carolina and legitimately built something, all while practically reshaping his offensive philosophy and overall schematic approach.

Meh. I don't have to like the guy to respect his abilities. Clearly a hall-of-fame football coach.
